Manchester United est. 1878, Season 2015/2016

Weā€™ve picked ourselves up a bargain there.

:put_litter_in_its_place:

Thatā€™s a juvenile post. Itā€™s hurt me and Iā€™m abandoning this debate.

United tried to sell their player. They were happy with the eventual fee and terms agreed. That move didnā€™t go through. Thatā€™s not good for United, no matter how anyone wants to dress it up. They have already done plenty to make De Gea feel like his time at the club should be over and putting a contract in front of him now is completely at odds with their strategy so far.

Get back here and debate now you charlatan.

Ah Rocko, he refused to sign a new contract, said his goodbyes at the end of last season as he assumed the deal would be done and he would be a Madrid player at the start of this season.
There was obviously stuff going on behind the scenes with Mendes, Madrid tried to buy not United tried to sell,

I want to go but Iā€™ll stay.
Just like David De Gea.
Yeah.
Yeah.

Woodward has been quite shit at this transfer malarkey, both ins and outs. Not getting targets. Overpaying massively for targets. Wasting lots of time on unattainable targets. Being used by targets to help secure better terms at existing clubs. But he played a blinder here according to the chaps.

He was under no obligation to sign a new contract. Benching him with a year left to go on that was an overly aggressive move and forced his hand and his agentā€™s hand in trying to get the deal to go through. Heā€™s obviously not going to be happy now but United have now managed to hugely annoy their best player and havenā€™t been able to get any transfer fee for him. Having him ā€œrotā€ in the stands would only compound the error, not teach him a lesson. It would be a ridiculously expensive and pointless exercise to make a grandstanding point of not playing him. But not atypical of Van Gaal.

I will say one thing, United have the best third choice goalie in world football. Fact.

Darmian was the signing of the summer pal.

Woodward is some operator

United will have the best keeper in the world invetween the sticks for them this season. It could have worked out a lot worse for United.

Woodward hasnā€™t done great but people saying he wasted time on fantasy targets is stupid. Better to try and get muller or bale or whoever than sign muck like James Milner or whoever. There is a slight chance you might get one of these big names and they are worth pursuing.

Theyā€™ve been used by players such as Ramos for contract negotiations, the carry on with Pedro was a farce.
Most of the big name transfers are sounded out long before offers are made etc. Woodward thinks heā€™s Perez, looking for marquee signings.

I doubt very much that they will let him rot, but they at least have a bargaining tool with him.
Do you think they should have played him in the 1st four games and then left him off and have to bed in a new keeper in a home game against Liverpool in a fortnight?
De Gea wanted to leave before he was benched not because of it.

Surely it is better to look for marquee signings then shite ones? As most journalists in the know point out it takes probably 12 months to sign a bale or pogba. At least United are being ambitious and trying to pull these off.

Man United today set plans in motion to completely overhaul their IT systems. If ever there was an admission of guilt in this whole set upā€¦

Case closed.

If they wanted to go through with the sale they should have done so. If they didnā€™t want it to go through they shouldnā€™t have dropped him. Theyā€™ve ended up in a high profile dispute with their best player.

I donā€™t think they should have dropped him regardless of whether they thought he would leave or not. And I certainly donā€™t think they should have dropped him just because he wanted to leave.
