Manchester United FC 2013/14

I hope he plays the tune for another 15 months

great to hear you signing pal,

I got into the car at 6-50 PM (jerusalem) and turned on RTE radio one to get the results of the day, Darren Frehill and Jacqui were playing recorded interviews of potential candidates for the presidency of the GAA, no results, fine i thought, over to the newsroom then for the 5pm bulletin and surely after that I thought he will run thru the classifieds… No, after the 5pm news he begins talking to some horrible cunt called “Hugo” McNeil about rugby football.

So, over to the WS, I was a little annoyed that Connor MacNamara was on point but the fact the expert summarizer was Jimmy Armfield placated me somewhat. I would prefer Mike Ingham tho on commentary, Macnamara did a good job however describing the siege being laid by united to the the fulham goal in the second half and Steklenberg’s heroics.

We lost contact after the first united goal , apparently the noise in old Trafford shut down the system, we got back just in time for Carrick’s strike and Connor was describing Moyes dancing on the line as it went in, Fulham’s equalizer was great radio tho, I haven’t seen it but I can imagine that ball hanging for an age in the sky before Bent nodded it in.

Do you ever listen to that phone in show afterwards? Fellas from Ghana calling in talking about Chelsea and stuff…

The Utd way.

An odd time I would listen yeah. Usually just leave the radio on in the kitchen. Where did that Conor Macnamara fella come from? I reckon he is a United fan. Jimmy Armfield must be nearly 80.

Is he the lad that started on TV3? He’s from Waterford I think.

I thought he was limerick. Same lad who was with TV3.

He is from Limerick AFAIK

was he in TV3 before doing the sport?
Jimmy Armfield is an institution, he was there when football was on BBC radio 2 before 5Live came along

When George Hamilton was on it.

was he?, i started listening during the 1988/89 season and can never remember George.
Mike Ingham is probably their best guy right now, he is chief football correspondent , previously it was Ron Jones.
Is Pat Murphy still reporting from the City Ground?

He’s from Limerick alright. Son of former 2FM DJ Michael McNamara.

yeah George was on in the early 80s

@Captainshan - Is this you, pal?

Following another disappointing result for current Premiership Champions Manchester United, one fan is on the brink of transferring his soccer allegiance to a more successful team.

“I’m weighing up my options at the moment” said 28 year old accountant Ian Horris. “I’ve been a Red Devil fan since I was in school, when they won the Premier League the first time. I remember it well; all the kids at school had their favourite teams, so I had to show an interest in order to fit in. I’ve been a vocal supporter ever since, apart from a few years when they didn’t win anything”.

It’s believed that United’s atrocious run of form under new manager David Moyes, which has resulted in the Red Devils languishing in 7th place with little relief in sight, may be the tipping point for Ian.

“It’s just getting harder and harder to justify sticking with a team that has no chance of winning the title this year” said Ian, who owns two Man. United jerseys. “When I show up at work on Monday and force myself into conversation with the rest of the lads, what am I supposed to talk about? How my side was held to a draw by a team I’d never heard of? How we’ve been knocked out of the FA cup?”

“No, if I’m going to be spending my Monday mornings glancing at the back page of the tabloids to get my teams weekend results, then I’m going to do it for a team that are going to give me results. Manchester United used to give me the opportunity to personally feel like a winner. The titles! The victories! The last-minute goals! Even though I didn’t watch any of the games, I could boast about supporting the winning team”.

Weighing up his options, Ian has decided that a move to Arsenal could be the solution to his woes:

“Yeah, I’m really liking Arsenal this year” said Ian, who is also a fan of Barcelona FC and the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I was thinking about Manchester City, who I nearly switched to a couple of years ago when they won the Premier League. That sure was exciting! But Arsenel are looking strongest this year, plus they play in red which I much prefer over blue. I can probably still wear one of my two Manchester United jerseys if I ever watch a game in public”.

There are only about 6 worse things in the world than really shit satirical articles.

What are the top 3?

What a mugging off here from Fulham defender Dan Burn -admits he hadn’t had to deal with as many crosses as he did against Manchester United on Sunday since his days in the Conference.

The 6ft 7ins centre-back was at the heart of a Fulham defence that cleared 81 crosses during the Old Trafford match, with neither of United’s goals in the 2-2 draw coming from one of them.

Burn himself made the clearance on 22 occasions with pundits questioning why Moyes constantly attacked the heart of a team with such a height advantage.

The youngster, who learned his trade in non-league football with Darlington, said: "I’ve never headed that many balls since the Conference.

Yea he is a Limerick man. He is legendary DJ Mickey Macs son.

La la larging it up on 2fm.
