I doubt it. Liverpool fans among the most knowledgeable there are out there. You telling me they wouldn’t have recognised that Zbigniew Boniek could play a bit? That Widzez Lodz side backboned the Polish side that were semi finalists in the 82 World Cup, a tournament they could well have won if Boniek had not been suspended for the semi final defeat to Italy.
A wonderful phrase which evokes memories of inhospitable stadiums, inhospitable fans, inhospitable weather, dodgy pictures and commentaries down telephone lines.
@Sidney and @Manuel Zelaya or @Wrigley Field trying to outdo each other in terms of anorak knowledge of the European Cup.
I don’t forget it, lucky to get over Dundee United in the previous round.
Poxy Arnold Muhren deflected goal.
They have been replaced with cack Eastern European sides.
Hey @Mullach Ide that St Etienne side you’re taking the piss out of was one of the best club sides of the 70s, Michel Platini, Dominique Rocheteau and Didier Six.
Ah @Fagan ODowd, Platini didn’t sign for them until 1979 and Six never played for them.
Some offer all the works of Shakespeare.
Even the ground staff had no respect for poor old David… ‘Is Everton in today’ was how they inquired if the boss was in the office or not.
I think it was Jimmy that mentioned that yesterday, and then it kicked off the most boring exchange ever on the internet. Was that meant to be funny anyway “is Everton in today”? Fucking hell the myoofc ground staff are mad bastards too arent they?
It just goes to show how little support the man had, no wonder he failed… Keane is right tho, the players should be ashamed, the money these cunts are on and like spoilt brats they didnt try a leg and got the man sacked.
I believe he stood and shook each one of their hands before he left yesterday, most likely taking the opportunity to stare into the souls of those cunts who shamed themselves week in week out.
David Moyes is a man of honour.
Didn’t forget it at all, they were worthy winners in 81.
In my opinion it is now harder to win the CL as you now have the top 3-4 clubs in EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga. It’s only an opinion.
Its never been easier to win the Champions League. You have an ever dwindling elite coterie of super franchises herded through group stages to the quarter finals each season. There were only 3 Italian clubs competing this season and they had no representation in the quarter finals and indeed have had no representation in the semi finals in the last 4 seasons. Bundelsiga strength is Bayern Munich full stop. The Dortmund team that lit up the competition last season has by now been plundered en masse by Bayern. Bayer Leverkusen were beaten 4-0 at home by Paris St Germain in the last 16 and Schalke were beaten 6-1 at home by Real Madrid.
The complete works of Shakespeare being celebrated with back, sack and crack.
How apt. The Bard of Avon was born 450 years ago today - 23 April 1564.
Agreed.
Champions League concentrates money and players
qualifying for the Champions League from each league becomes self fulfilling as it is a money game and the money from the Champions League means domestic leagues end up with very few teams with a realistic chance to qualify
Once in the Champions League the dominant teams financially become unbeatable until they get to the knock out stages because league format ensures that
It is financial doping. Smaller clubs with less financial muscle have no chance to build a team and compete for a few years the way they once could because players are plundered season upon season
Financial Fair Play was introduced to stop this but so far has not been enforced with any real rigour if at all
One way to achieve a level playing pitch would be to have as a condition of entry a salary cap for each named squad along lines of American Football.
