Fred had two options when the ball came to him. A risky no look pass out to the right back or a pass back to the goalie. Less risky option was pass back to the goalie who would then likely have hoofed it as the press came in. Begs the question, why the fuck didnât Maguire cut out the middle man and just boot it himself or pass to someone who wasnât under threat of the press?

Ole is not naive enough to encourage Maguire to play ball. Maguire would have been better off rolling it up in the air so he could head it out. If you canât see the problem with that pass you really shouldnât be playing ball. Arsenal goalie did it a few weeks ago and Burnely got a fortunate goal. Xhaka got the blame there too but it was the original pass that put him in trouble.
