So yes the Premier League was far weaker in the 90âs. Now thereâs a big 6 plus even an outsider like Wolves look a decent bet to potentially even win the Europa League this season. English clubs dominated the European game in 2019. 4 quarter-finalists in the Champions League were English. Even Leicester reached the Quarter-finals in their maiden voyage in 2017.

Iâd imagine this will be the first time in 20 years three teams wonât reach 70 points. 8 out of the last 10 seasons 4 teams have reached the 70 point mark. A very weak league.

You only needed 60 points to finish top 4 in the mid 00âs era that you speak of. Arsenal missed out on Champions League with 75 points as recently as 2017. Itâs not two decent teams at the top, they are two fantastic sides. That Liverpool side could potentially be up there with the greatest in their illustrious history.

Nobody is saying the league was strong in the 90s. After Liverpool got all the English teams banned the standard was always going to fall off a cliff.

Liverpool reached two Champions League Finals in succession. Winning one of them. No English team has ever reached 3 consecutive European Cup/Champions League finals so it would have been unprecedented if they had managed to reach another this season. No shame losing a first 2 legged European tie since taking charge for Jurgen Klopp.
