Ah right. That place looked like it was getting another makeover last week when I was passing.

Chunkier yellow salt , more aromatic altogether.

MSG in powder form

Mushy peas havenā€™t Limerick city yet. Iā€™ve encountered them out the county but as a staple in a Limerick city chipper, non existent. Itā€™s interesting the differences in chipper menus around Ireland. Another one you wouldnā€™t see in Limerick city is the pudding box totally a county chipper thing.

The fuck is a pudding box?

Chippers are fucked up that way, the potato pie which is one of e most popular things on any Cork menu is non existent in the rest of the country ( I think)

Or the Waverley (sic?) burger that appears in many Dublin chippers - a kind of battered quarter pounder with salad and stuff. A friend convinced me to buy one on the drive back from a gig years back. I thought I was going to have a heart attack by the time weā€™d hit the Red Cow roundabout.

Iā€™ve never seen a pudding box.

Stuffing chips seem to be an exclusively West Limerick/Kerry thing. They are pure daycent

She claims it was Aromat back in the 90s anyway.

The only time I saw someone eating a pudding box was in a chipper in Kilkenny. It appears that they just deep fry the full ring of black pudding and give you some chips with it. The fella that orders it ate it like a battered sausage

Nobody can afford to go full Aromat surelyā€¦

Jaysus.

A pudding box :joy:

I thought that was just a spoof by the Dā€™Unbelievables ? It surely canā€™t be real??

Youā€™ll get one in Mitchelstown. Potato pie? In Limerick city Shepherds pie maybe in one of the Italian sit down places but I would not be sure about that. Is it possible to get a good steak n kidney pie in Cork city?

 You have to be careful. You wouldnā€™t know what youā€™de be getting.

@backinatracksuit - KCā€™s is a shithole.

Yes had em, very interesting. Big thing in Tralee aswell.

Iā€™ve no idea why youā€™d want to get a steak and kidney pie in a chipper but Iā€™ve seen them in the odd place below in cork.
The potato pie is mashed potato in batter, often with thyme and onion (probably lots of salt as well, maybe aromat ), The golden fry in Ballinlough, not far from Pairc Ui Rinn does the best potato pie (in Cork itā€™s just a ā€˜Pieā€™) in the world, a variation is the cheese and onion pie, same thing except well you get it (Jackie Lennox does the best),
Mushy pea fritter is mushy peas in batter

I donā€™t recall recommending it to you, did I?
KCā€™s is not without itā€™s charms but for traditional chipper fare it is terrible.
The Golden Fry above on the Ballinlough road is a great great chipper if you ever feel like having a filthy treat, go for the Lemon Sole :ok_hand:

Yep the last time I was in Cork I went into Dinoā€™s out the Limerick road and asked for a steak n kidney pie your one didnā€™t have a clue what a steak n kidney pie was. I nearly had a heart attack. She said they had potato pie now when I come to think of it so I have sampled it. It was grand but the portion size was no greater than a mince pie with same little foil tray.
