They probably wont even knock the bloody thing. Just board it up and paint âwindowsâ on the boards and stick a big fuck off advertising board on the Bamk Place end of the building.
I can recall seeing big plans to redevelop the old boathouse into an Opera House on Sarsfield bridge as well? They were impressive enough. Architects fees alone must have blown the budget at the time though.
Yep, saw those plans myself. They were grandoise.
An opera house, on that bit of ground? You couldnât swing a cat in there, never mind perform La Traviata.
Iâm sure it could comfortably accomodate the 20 odd people in Limerick who would go to see an Opera.
Poor manâs Kilkee is a charming part of the City, some great characters around there
I see that miserable no good excuse for a man is on the front of the Examiner this morning trying to defend the fact that he pays no Tax, cough up old man!!!
JP bought me pints in the Weigh Inn thatâs good enough for me.
Whatâs led to you having this big chip on your shoulder over JP? Sure doesnât he throw a few bob into Limerick every now and then. Better then giving it to the boys up in Dublin.
According to the front of todays Leader the council fully intend to begin developing the Opera center site ASAP.
They are talking about a mixed use development and possibly incorporating something from the University.
If this is a Limerick City Council (or whatever they call themselves now) venture then expect it to be a farce of a development. All that mob are good for is fighting in the jacks after council meetings and calling for the Polish to be deported. They are trash who have destroyed a once-great city. People like Jim Long, Ginger McLoughlin and Kevin Kiely are among the stupidest people ever elected to any office, they are reactionary bigots whose election policies amount to pandering to the lowest common denominator of bigotry and prejudice. Long has used disgraceful language against foreign nationals in the city, Kiely has called for their deportation while McLoughlin has denigrated the town of Newcastle West. I despise all three and hope they die roaring. This development will be a failure.
Fuckin hell. Post of the year right there.
Big Blow To Limerick Tourism
LIMERICKâS iconic floating Christmas tree will not return to the river this year, Limerick City Council have confirmed.
The 100 feet tree, made entirely of recycled metals - some from the stand in Thomond Park - has been a fixture at Christmas, but has had its problems, including toppling over earlier this year.
âEven though the tree had to be rescued this year, it is largely intact,â explained a Council spokesman. âWe donât have it sorted this year but we still have it and the intention is to try and re-use it because it was so fantastic.â

That headline seems to imply that tourists flocked to Limerick to see a floating Christmas tree.
Locals, has this been the case in previous years?
Not exactly Bandage. Have you not been following this story?
Last february the council tried to get around having to take the tree back out of the river by saying it wasnât really a christmas tree and could be left in there all year round as tourist attraction.
Then it sank.
Hereâs the story from the time:
LIMERICK cityâs floating Christmas tree could become an all year round attraction if members of the public have their way.
Limerick city council has confirmed it has been contacted by a number of people who have suggested the tree should be turned into a permanent attraction.
The 100 foot tree, which is made entirely from metal salvaged from Thomond Park and the Limerick Tunnel, is the tallest Christmas tree in the country.
Located on the River Shannon near Howleyâs Quay the tree has been a major attraction in the city for the past three years.
Kieran Lehane, director of service at Limerick City Council, says it has proven very popular with visitors to the city and that it may remain in place all year round.
âThe tree was originally intended for Christmas, but a number of people have contacted us anxious that something more permanent should be done with it, rather than taking it down every year. I have often seen people admiring it, and it would be wonderful for the city if it could become a landmark and a unique tourist attraction,â he said.
Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Maria Byrne, says she would be in favour of such an initiative.
âThe fact that it came from Thomond Park and the Limerick Tunnel and the fact that you could add different colours onto it would certainly be attractive,â she said adding: âIt is not a Christmas Tree per say and it could look very attractive if it was dressed up in different colours for different events. It is quite tall and it is very attractive when it is lit up so I wouldnât be against it and I suppose people are used to seeing it now.â
One suggestion being considered is to put different coloured lights on the tree for different sporting occasions and festivals in the city.
EDIT: I made up the headline in the initial story.
Aha, I see.
Runt, who wrote the original article? Using the spelling âper sayâ - dear Lord.
David Hurley - you can point out the error to him at: david.hurley@llimerickleader.ie
A previous christmas the tree broke free from itâs moorings and crashed into the Shannon Bridge and had to be lifted out of the river by a crane.

Apparently some hairdressers in Limerick sold nearly 200 vouchers on one of the deals pages last week and then shut down the shop a couple of days later
Quite a coincidence that you mentioned a couple of racist Fine Gael councillors just before the comments of that chap in Naas.
