Matters Regarding Limerick 🏙️ (Part 2)

Another big shuttered building

We’ve got a new mango shop now. City is lifting

Who forsaw the rubby museum being a bust?

We could have a shuttered quarter?

Funny thing is that the external building turned out a lot better on the street than pretty much everyone imagined.

How difficult would it be to repurpose the building for offices? It’s a very good looking building if a marquee company came to Limerick in the near future. That’s the only option I’d be looking at now, another museum there is going to flop as well. It was a rare business misstep from McManus, but it seems just about everyone thought the original idea for a rugby museum was idiotic / unviable.

Biggest mishap since selling Manchester United. Left a billion quid behind him there.

It is a lovely building, I don’t think Limerick has the tourist footfall to sustain any high profile museum, not to mind a niche sport taken seriously by about 1% of sports fans worldwide

The tower portion has no windows plus Limerick is going to have a glut of high grade office space. A museum / tourist attraction can still work there but it needs work in someway of ensuring it can attract repeat business. The catchment probably isn’t big enough to rely solely on new visitors / tourists.

The Castle & Bunratty both seem to do well during the summer, they need to be somewhere tour groups want to bolt on to make up a full day (e.g. morning in the Castle, lunch, afternoon in the museum.

You need something to appeal to the Yanks really if you want any sort of tourist attraction. There must be a couple of dozen tour buses bypassing Limerick going to Kerry from Dublin every day during the high season. Need to have something that might attract them to stop.

Museums probably don’t really appeal to the American tourists in any instance (other than the Guinness Storehouse, if you can class that as a museum).

Limerick was a major port during the famine for ships carrying immigants.

Have a famine museum and spoof the dumb yanks with a fake biometric data base that magically finds a match for their ancestors that left via Limerick

Can it find Limerick lads dads who left for milk?

The vacant quarter. The heroin quarter. The financial quarter. The Islamic quarter.

The lambs quarter.

That’s what ICE is for

Would it be any good as an events space I wonder.

I don’t think Limerick needs a 4th museum. They could put a few bob into the King Johns castle stuff and make it better/fix all the broken bits first anyway.

Could ye turn into into a multiplex?
