He wants to lock Limerick people in, and let them all drown. Its a bold strategy, lets see if it works.
Oh, it’s an inwards facing wall? He really should have said - that makes all the difference
Michael Noonan hates Limerick people.
It’s worrying alright but most of that land to already protected by the levy that was build in the 1930 I think. The levy is that bank/wall on your left as you drive out the Condell road. London is much the same and many cities around the world have already started construing barriers.
Although I currently live on that flood plane, I certainly wouldn’t buy there/here again under the current situation. That incident recently when the sluice gates were left open in Coonagh shows how serious it could be if the levy failed. I often walk the bank there on the Condell road, and at high tide the waves would be lapping up within inches of your shoes.
How they got permission to build those new houses on the Condell road is beyond me. Take note any prospective tenants.
Do they still dredge the river regularly?
The big ships only come in as far as Foynes so I’m not aware of any dredging.
It was hardly the most sensible thing to move to Cork to avoid flooding…
But would it not be beneficial to dredge the rivers regularly anyway, no matter whether ships go up there or not. I would presume that it would be beneficial to water flow and capacity etc
Geography is not strong with you in relation to Cork?
Do you know what Corcaigh means?
I’m no expert but it seems to have more to do with bottle necks in Limerick. The one they caused when they put in the new moor for boats above Sarsfield Bridge during the sewerage scheme construction contributed to the flooding of the Island Field last year. This is above the curragower Falls and the tidal zone. There was no flooding below the falls in that incident.
The high tide is the problem mostly, so with the potential of the whole Atlantic Ocean rushing in, I’d assume a bit of dredging lower down the river would be of little help. I think the dredging is just for the boats.
The populace of limerick city ( bar Castletroy ) will need to move to move the the uplands of west limerick
