Foynes is where all the bulk carriers come in 200m in length and well over 60k tons of products on board. Place would vibrate in the port when one was coming in.
Foynes probably needs work before it becomes a real cruise-liner destination
Flying boat museum>Rubby museum
One normally stops off once a year during the summer if I remember.
Idea; Flying Rugby Museum
Flying half museum
The biggest problem with Limerick city is that the city pretty much faces away from the river. A majority of the nightlife, bars restaurants etc should be north or adjacent of Henry street either side of the river.
The Venice of the Mid-West.
Doesn’t use the waterfront near enough. But, the river is quite wide and people might not criss-cross over and back a lot. Could go the Istanbul route and have pubs and restaurants ON the Bridge
Newcastle in England is the same. The nicest part of it is the Quays but everything is north of it.
I’ve not seen it. Ive not been in the city in 3 years I’d say.
Still, at least there’s still the film festival.
That would actually be class. Expensive, but good.
The cagers wouldn’t like that
We need a bridge quarter
Must be costing cruise-liners serious business that they cant include Limerick on itineraries
Well it could probably be done reasonably cheap but this is Ireland so it wont be
Imagine the views of Aughinish and Moneypoint the tourists are missing out on
and the rain coming up the shannon as they stand on the “new bridge” wondering what they should be looking at.
The cruise liners come into Dunmore all through the summer. Passengers are then tendered ashore and bussed in their hundreds into the Viking quarter in the City and in particular the Waterford Crystal showrooms. It’s a serious bit of revenue for the City and in particular the bus companies. They’ll also run bus tours up as far as Kilkenny and Cashel.
