Matters Regarding Limerick 🏙️

What routes are the cruise ships that stop at Dunmore doing?

Usually out of Southampton and then around Ireland, taking in Cork, Dublin and Belfast. Many of them then go on to Iceland.

What’s the deal with Waterford Crystal, is it very high quality or has it just convinced the world that it is?
A mate of mine is the grandson of the founder and they never made a bob out of it, some shady takeover?

The stuff that was made in the old factory in Waterford was extremely high quality. I’ve a good few pieces of it (Lismore pattern, if you are thinking of getting me something for the Christmas). Beautiful weight to it and the cuts are fantastic. Still easy enough to pick up at antique auctions like Keigherys in Waterford.
The stuff they sell now (apart from the special pieces they blow and cut in the showroom in Waterford) is cheaper and lesser quality and in made in Indonesia.
Tony O’Reilly lost the shirt on his back investing in Waterford crystal. It just went out of fashion.

My uncle was involved in setting up a crystal factory in Canada in the late 90s. A load of fellas from Waterford how had been made redundant came over (many are still in Canada - I lived with a few of them one summer). The idea was that they’d still do it in Canada as mouth blown and hand cut.

The uncle is long gone from that business and I think it folded a few years ago

That’s all fine and well for Dunmore but if the same was applied to Limerick then tourists would have to run the gauntlet of various drug families haring past them on their jet skis getting packages into the Island before ever setting foot in the city. Then again maybe there is a market for narco tourism…

That’s the one in Halifax? I half sniffed around for a job when i first landed. Drank with a few boys working there after the infamous 2003 Munster Final. Think we ended up in the old triangle.

That’s the one. If I’d known you back then, I’d have gotten you sorted. Was there a big (tall and wide) fella drinking with you? Brian?

My old employer Salty’s Restaurant getting knocked down I heard. Part of a big redevelopment of that area.

Sure we have that already. Have you never been to a gig in The Boat Club.

I’ve mentioned it a few times on here but that space at the back of City Hall is sensational when the tide (bulge) is low and the falls are in full flow, but it is completely neglected, even the official Three Bridges Walk avoids it and goes up Nicholas St instead.

There’s cruise ship stopping off in Dingle now too

There wouldn’t be much to see in Kerry.

There are no shops because there is no footfall.

There is no footfall because the casual shopper wont come into the city centre.

The casual shopper won’t come into the city centre because scobes make it an unpleasant experience.

In short, scobes are the biggest issue. Under Irish law, it is illegal to beg within 25 feet of a retail premises - the guards refuse to enforce it.

Didn’t they deny planning permission for student accommodation near the art college as it would spoil the view of the nearby industrial school

Took the family into the Samhain parade there for the first time, it was excellent. Not a massive long parade but what was there wss really well done. Definitely worthwhile and great crowds around by the castle.

Why are GSOC investigating the crash in Ballylanders yesterday?

Usually means a chase doesn’t it? Or a Guard involved

Down home for the weekend and strolled through town on the way out to the GG.i see some work being done on Kranks Korner, for those of us of a certain vintage would call it. Good to see as it’s been vacant for a long long time. What’s going in there? Please don’t say a vape shop:smile::smile:
