Míchaél Ó Muircheartaigh

Hot (point) off the press. People in glasshouses etc

You don’t get much better than this for two lifetime moments from Verne Lundquist (mostly 3 to 4 ranked comm at CBS for his career)

Or this from Al Michaels

You’d be hard pressed to get a commentator like a Keith Jackson setting the scene as the sun sets at the Rose Bowl on New Years Day.

Is this meant to be impressive commentary?

‘The first half was even,
The second half was even worse’

My uncle used to do that in a MOM accent, swore he heard it for real

Poor Michael was over mimicked. Every lad thinking he could do it and it was never heard before. A bit like the 3 am Calendonia wedding piece.

The first half was even.
The second half was even more even…

In fairness to the bullock.
I think it was the brother broke his jaw…

The problem with any online discourse about Micheál O’Muircheartaigh was that it was generally instantly reduced to simpletons relentlessly copying and pasting the same lists of most likely made up quotes and completely failing to understand his actual attributes and appeal.

Thank goodness for Roy.

The same crowd praising MOM for making a few bob on the side would be slating current RTE staff for doing the same thing

The Moriartys of Dun Sion were one of those impressive families that sprout out of rural Ireland occasionally and for no obvious reason. The brother, Paddy, was a very far sighted CEO of the ESB and chair of the RTE authority. Paddy’s daughter Siobhan is Global General Counsel and Company Secretary of Diageo plc.

The only I know with 8 kids is Miriam and don’t think anyone begrudges her

I used to chuckle at the lads having cuts off him here for it, you knew they’d be the lads eulogising about him when this day came.

Micheal worked as a teacher well into the 80s, maybe 90s. You’d hardly blame him for trying to cash in when the time came

Sorry it was last year he made the trek at 93. Still impressive.
