The clear strangehold on the game you assert they had wasn’t reflected on the scoreboard. Dublin were two points ahead before McQuillan dropped the ball into his own net to extend the lead to 5. Dublin in the early 1990’s had a bit of a problem against Meath closing out games, even when Meath looked distinctly second best. That lucky goal put Dublin 5 points ahead and ultimately gave them enough of a buffer to withstand the customary Meath late rally and win by 1.
That was 1999 when Dublin beat Laois in a replay by a point or two. Trying to remember if Robertson picked the ball off the ground in the draw or replay?
Draw. Cribben was over Laois at the time and doing a fine job. He got rammed that day though.
I know at time there were accusations of Laois not delivering at senior level on minor successes of 1996 and 1997 but just thinking back on some of the games you are referring to there, Laois really were a force from the late 90’s right through to about 2006. On a Tyrone related thread it would be remiss not to point out that it was Laois who dethroned Tyrone as All Ireland Champions in 2006.
Laois have fallen a long way over the last decade.
And not finished falling yet. I’ve heard an awful rumour about another dreadful managerial appointment coming down the tracks.
