Caught in a trap
With suspicious minds
On the savannah our forefathers and mothers could make a mistake and think
(I) a beige rock was a lion
(ii) a lion was a beige rock
Price of first mistake was needless anxiety.
Price of second mistake was death.
We evolved to make first mistake a thousand times to avoid making the second mistake once.
Our ancestors minds remembered every bad thing that happened and imagined every bad thing that could happen
From Audible Great Course on Mindfulness. Chapter 2.
Have to get this off my chest, help my mind etc.
Mrs. Locke got us both tickets to go and see Dermot Whelan in the Opera House the other evening. In the end she was travelling back from work late so I went with a mate of mine. Basically, it’s a comedy show with the theme of Mindfulness through it. Listened to what he said for the first half of the show. At the interval, the buddy and I just stood up, agreed it was shit, and left.
On reflection, I’d have an interest in mindfulness as in dealing with stressful situations we all come across in life, any help is great. But what I came around to is that I find Dermot (and indeed Dave) not funny, in the slightest. And I know I am just one person, and there was others around us who were having a great night out and good look to them, but Christ my eyes were already looking to heaven with the amount of times he used the word ‘craic’ and then he rolled out his Matthew McConaughy impression and I thought “that’s fuckin it, I’m clocking out”.
Went to Tom Cashmans, had a fine pint of Guinness and watched the end of the Ireland v Latvia match, much better way to spend my time.
One man’s show in the opera house is another man’s pint in Cashmans.
It’s all relative to where you are at and what you want out of something. No doubt some just went for light entertainment but perhaps having knowledge of the subject you were expecting more?
There’s nothing new in celebrity cashing in on mindfulness and mental help… The question remains as to whether they are actually helping people at all.
You’ve nearly 20 year’s served on the internet, rubbing shoulders with some of the most cynical minds the world has seen… Dave was never gonna live up to expectations here.
Cashmans is a good spot.
Would you have walked out if you had gone with the missus?
That’s a great negative review.
Great pint of Guinness tbf.
I asked myself that question too. No, I wouldn’t have.

At one stage I remember saying to myself “another Limerick cunt telling me what to think”
