He called his mate on the way back. I’d say if it was suicide it was a spur of the moment thing.
He could possibly have gone out by the Dodder behind Lansdowne Road but surely the body would have struggled out to sea. Who knows with the rain though.
They’ve tried it plenty of times in other cases with no discernible improvement. I find it hard to believe they could now identify this lad.
Edit, you’re right though, I haven’t a clue really.
Doubt it. I can see him fibbing to co-workers but not a friend who he was returning a call from.
I think it’s possible he thought about it and spiralled but not sure on it being methodically planned.
But I also would be wary of the suicide in the water thing. Can’t see how he’d had been fully washed out by the Dodder and not emerged in the port. The distance he would have walked to have been clear beyond Ringsend was an hour from the last sighting. It was December and dark so possible, but I’d also expect there would have been workers arriving around then around Poolbeg.
Any further north would have been a struggle distance wise before things got too busy. He wouldn’t have been able to get public transport for another couple of hours.
The fact he stood and talked to the man outside the bank would have me fairly positive he hadn’t lost his head and this was a spur of the moment thing.
He was ensuring everyone thought he was ok. More than likely fully aware he was on camera outside the bank as well.
If the sea is the theory then depending on tides he could have easily gone in off Sandymount Strand which isn’t a million miles away from where he was last seen
By my completely spoofing calculations, even at high tide, I can scarcely think of a place where it would be harder to enter the sea, or a place where a person entering the sea would be more likely to have their body washed back ashore than Sandymount Strand.
Pre checking his emails. The scenario here is that with a bit of drink on him he got a bit down that there was no correspondence from Alaska. He leaves calls his friend with no answer. Further spirals.
Not a huge lot. Quite a bit of sharing on facebook in the west donegal area at the time. It looked very much like an open and shut case of suspected suicide. God love him and his poor mother.
Plenty of server space dedicated to all sorts of theories regarding the Alaska connection and Dublin gangs. Very little to the most mundane and plausible scenarios. I’d be inclined to think either this or the Dodder.
Could they not get a 90kg sack of meat/offal, stick a gps tracker in.and fuck it into the Dodder and Liffey a hape of times when conditions are similar to that night?
