RTĂ News interviewing locals in Cavan about their delight at Aisling Brady McCarthyâs release. Thereâs a dead child thatâs important in this story. The lady deserves justice but I donât think it should be portrayed as an opportunity for Ireland to celebrate.
Ya I found some of the comments of her lawyer a bit distasteful today as well.
Cavan people donât much oppurtunity to celebrate anything. Let them have their Louise Woodward moment.

To be fair a woman appears to have spent two and a half years of her life locked up in an American jail on trumped up charges. Naturally thereâd be some relief that she is being freed and coming home.
Didnât see the report you mentioned so if some of the locals were celebrating her release in an OTT manner that would certainly be insensitive in light of a baby dying in very sad circumstances.
If an American citizen was thrown into Mountjoy for two and a half years before it transpired they had done nothing wrong thereâd be a big diplomatic incident.

She was arrested again by immigration and in another holding facility till they can send her back here.

It wasnât so much an OTT manner but it did involve interviewing 2 local councillors in a bar in Cavan who I doubt were experts on the medical evidence presented.
I donât think RTĂ should have sent a camera crew there in the first place. Itâs a sensitive topic and anything that comes across as gleeful or celebratory just has the completely wrong tone. By all means, report the story of her release, by all means state that sheâs innocent, but donât make it parochial and an issue of nationality.
