Haven’t there been a few instances of people driving the wrong way on that section of the M8 or nearby sections?
About 7 years ago we met a similar scenario at the end / start of the Limerick bypass. Some poor auld lad coming from Adare direction was on the wrong side of the motorway oblivious to being on the wrong side of things. Never read about any accident afterwards so always hoped nothing happened him
It’s the one thing that scares the shit out of me.
The day I was going down to see the first born in hospital after she was born I saw an aul lad drive down the slip road from McDonalds in Cashel onto the M8 Southbound.
All was well until he turns right and faces back for Dublin on wrong side of course.
He was blessed I was just driving on behind him and headed for Clonmel myself.
All I could do was ditch the car and wave him down once he was turned.
He was trying to head home to Fethard but hadn’t been through the new Roundabouts before and they confused the fuck out of him.
He hadn’t a seat belt on either and the car was possibly 25 years old
Scared the living shite out of me.

It’s more of less a guaranteed accident once it happens. It’s only pure lucks/fate that will avoid a head on
I saw one of these accidents between Fermoy and Mitchelstown on the M8 Northbound about 7 years ago, happened about 400 yards in front of me; a young lady was killed by an elderly man coming contra flow in a Land Cruiser. Struggled to sleep for a week after it.
There’s a really awful video released by the family of a head on collision of a motorbike from the helmet cam behind. Happened in the Isle of Man I reckon during TT week. One lad looked to be going steady enough, another lad came round the corner on the wrong side doing 140 mph. The two of them were obliterated instantly.
It’s awful, you know not the day nor the hour.

I remember seeing that video, the sheer force of the collision was staggering, obliterated is the right word.

Deceased announced as being from Fethard, it appears he took the Exit onto the motorway as opposed to the Fethard one.

RIP it’s desperately sad, poor misfortune.
Having seen the video one thing I can’t get over, is the speed of thought of the lady involved in the collision to get out of the car and make it out behind the hard shoulder so quickly and safely.
It was amazing how quickly she was out of the car. I heard reports last night that she ended up in CUH with non severe injuries.
Another way to look at how quickly she made a dash from the car was that she was extremely lucky not to have been cleaned off by a vehicle in the slow lane.
That’s what I meant by safely, she could easily have been hit crossing the road. I don’t know did she even look.
