It’s to flush out uninsured drivers apparently. They were talking about on Morning Ireland earlier. I think they said one in twelve drivers isn’t insured which is ridiculous. Sure a Gardai checkpoint at a busy time must be able to catch loads of them if there are that many.
Well, it’s the same point really.
People now with non-valid licence number will no longer be able to get insurance as they won’t cross-check.
So the effect of this may be increasing the number of uninsured drivers on the roads.

People with fake licenses are uninsured anyway even if they’ve paid for insurance
In tanland you now just get a fine through the post for having a vehicle registered to you which is uninsured if it isn’t SORNed. It’s a pain in the bolox, especially as auto renewal is a swindle of the very highest order, but there you go.

The road is perfectly good, it’s the idiots who travel it daily you need to watch.
Tailgating is the crux of all issues.
And the amount of people on phones while driving is getting ridiculous.
