MSHC Final Limerick v Cork

Has any Munster Final sold out in recent years? Has any hurling match even sold out in the past 4/5 years other than the AI final?

That 2008 Munster Final was very close to a sell out. I remember getting a ticket from a booth outside the ground a hour before throw in but it must have surely been the very last batch of tickets.

Tipp & Cork in Thurles in 2005 was uncomfortably packed. A roaster of a day too.

Wasn’t there a Tipp v Cork match in PUC where they had to open the terrace and let people sit behind the goals - 2008 possibly?

Correct, but that was more an issue of supporters all arriving late.

Eoin Kelly scored a great goal the same day.

After about 12 steps… but yes, it was a good finish.

A LIMERICK city councillor says it is time to “divorce drink from sport” after it emerged the GAA are in talks with the local authority to open a temporary bar beside the Gaelic Grounds in the city.

The County Board have held discussions with Limerick City Council to erect a temporary structure for the Munster Final between Limerick and Cork in the Gaelic Grounds on July 14.
The hurling showpiece is expected to be a sell-out with a bumper 44,000 fans in attendance, but northside councillor Maurice Quinlivan has voiced concerns over the proposal.
“This game is a huge event, and people are looking forward to it. But we need to divorce drink from sport. I would not necessarily be in favour of a huge tent at the Gaelic Grounds. The biggest problem we have with addiction in this city is with alcohol. We don’t need to encourage that,” he said.
A council spokesman confirmed discussions have taken place in relation to the erection of the temporary marquee in front of Parkview Drive, Greystones, beside the Gaelic Grounds.
“The application hasn’t been submitted yet,” the spokesman said.
“We will get back to them and advise them on the best approach. All we would be giving is a licence for the structure, they would have to apply to the courts for a bar licence.”
Councillor Cormac Hurley said residents are already “irate” at the plans.
“In the brief period I was around Clareview, there was major opposition to it. People are worried there will be a lot of noise. I was only there very briefly, but they could not believe the thought of it,” he said.
It is understood if the County Board get the green light for the temporary bar, it will be run on the day by former hurler, Clem Smith of the Orchard Bar, Michael Street.
Meanwhile, city publicans are seeking permission to keep their pubs open until 2am on July 17 after the Bruce Springsteen concert at Thomond Park.
A special exemption is being sought by Jerry O’Dea - the local representative for the Vintners Federation of Ireland - on behalf of local publicans, to cater for the huge influx of fans - upwards on 30,000 will pack into the stadium for what will be the biggest music concert ever staged in the city.

I suppose these plans will be rejected, but when it was a rugby match on Good Friday, the council were falling over themselves to get the pubs opened.

Quinlivan eh? Could have swore I heard a rumour about him from some lad with a tache

One of the great myths is that a ‘fracture’ and a ‘break’ are two different things. They’re not. A fractured bone is the same thing as a broken bone.

The duplicity of the city council is galling when it comes to GAA & Rugby. The GAA weren’t allowed put a roof on the new stand due to height restrictions, yet the rugby were allowed to build a stadium that can be seen from 15 miles away. Same with the battle to get flood lights installed. I suppose it’s easier to run roughshod the residents of Ballynanty than it is the well heeled professionals who live on the Ennis Road.

Murphy is an awful loss, still an incredible marker. Kelly didn’t get a sniff off him.

Hit the nail on the head.

I have looked up the weather forecast for next weekend and at the moment it’s giving glorious weather. 24c +

So we can expect heavy rain and strong winds then! Hope your source is right though.

A nice settled spell of warm weather is expected from this Saturday onwards. Unlikely to last till the 14th you’d imagine

Limerick will want a nice fine day for the match. Cork will be hoping for rain to drag us down to their level.

All cancelled now anyway lads.

Exactly this is a middle class - working class thing. Nothing to do with Hurling or Rugby.

Where exactly do they want to put a tent on Parkview Drive? Is it down in the corner where the van selling tickets was the last day?
