I don’t disagree with any of your post at all. I was only pointing the hypocrisy of certain sweepers being grand for some lads and other sweepers not grand. I think a lot of what McGrath tried to do is now common place. It didn’t always work for him but ultimately I don’t think it was him that held the team back from achieving more.

McGraths game plan much like Davy Fitz is based on not losing rather than winning. It fucked Clare after 2013 and by the looks of it has taken them now to get to the other side of of it. Time will tell if that group will manage to salvage it.
Ditto McGrath. An absolutely outstanding u21 team is on the brink. If they don’t reach the holy grail this year or at a minimum bring a full tilt Limerick back to within striking distance (3/4 points), it could also be a fruitless venture. I have serious doubts that Cahill will stay on if the gap is not at least closed to within that margin

DMcG picked a Cork team in a panel beside that column. He noticeably does not indicate what Clare players would be free in his arrangement, an inevitability given that Robert Downey and Tim O’Mahony, in his schema, are free for Cork.

DMcG’s ‘deep thinking’ about hurling extends no further than advocacy of flooding midfield with bodies, than those bodies throwing the ball to each other from rucks. DMcG is crude – as was seen when he took over Faythe Harriers. The reality is that DMcG is a II.2. Hence the need to read all those ridiculous ‘fine art of the bleedin’ obvious’ self help books.
