A Limerick v Clare Munster final is still more likely thsn a Limerick v Waterford Munster final based on results, table and fixtures remaining.
A Limerick v Waterford all Ireland semi final is also still possible (if Waterford finish third) depending on results in the knockout stage. It happened in 2018 when Limerick defeated the then Munster champions Cork after drawing with them in the qualifiers.
Bar a miracle thatâs the end of Cork this year. They now have to win their remaining fixtures by at least 20 points combined and need favourable results in other games. to have any chance.
He did, but the gig was up by then⌠He offers very little in way of work rate, tackling and linking up play. Coughed up possession cheaply a couple of times that led to scores. I canât see what Cork management see in him. Bill Cooper must be turning in his grave.
A debatable point but its probably deeper than that. Looking at the game, I suspect that the result might not have been any different had the game been played in Cork. There seems to be a reluctance to change the game plan regardless.
Cork from a physical and workrate perspective are not at the races. Theâyre a team that needs to hit the gym as soon as this season is over and spend it in their until the league next year. Then start concentrating on stickwork.
If they are arrogant , the arrogance comes from the belief that speed and pace will win over work rate. Clearly not the case based on what theyâve delivered up to now
Well done Clare. Lohan has done a good job, instilled a bit of doggedness and work into them. Theyâve a good chance now of making a Munster final with two home games to come.
Two points totally flattered Cork. The same problems, the same issues and nothing ever, ever changes, most notably âbig namesâ being shoehorned into the team and indulged, irrespective of form and displays.
It took them a full league campaign and a first round championship battering to belatedly put their best centre back in place. They then shift the outgoing centre back to midfield with his buddy, two loose ball hurlers who are as far removed as from whatâs needed in the engine room today as is possible. Obviously canât drop him because heâs the captain.
Fitzgibbon too, hasnât improved one iota since he came on the scene. Heâs a world beater when running into space but he doesnât want to know about anything defensively. Ever. Whether thatâs selfishness, bad coaching or both I donât know.
If itâs not handed to him on a plate he offers nothing. An honest lad like Ryan Taylor bossed the game today by just working hard and keeping it all ticking over, nothing showy. I think thatâs an AI final, league final and now two championship matches this year where Fitzgibbon has been anonymous and I donât think Kingston or the management have been big enough to hook him in any of them. Crazy. The goal in garbage time today will keep him in the team for the next two matches.
Jack OâConnor has made a reputation off the back of a goal against Kilkenny in the semi final. Has done little before or since but still thrown back in today with zero form behind him. Duly roasted and hauled off. Totally nonsensical decisions where lads are handed jerseys and opportunities they donât deserve.
Kingston is a nice guy but some of these decisions are just ludicrous. Seems afraid of upsetting lads. Look at Cahill coming in and dropping Connors and Shanahan - can you see Cork doing that? Oh they did and promptly recalled Lehane first thing.
You live and die by your back room team and appointing The Rock was another blunder.
Theyâll probably beat Waterford and/or Limerick in the league next year and weâll be back in another cycle of it.
I can see them beating Cork alright. Clare in Ennis is a different proposition. Not saying they wonât but it will be a big ask. A Munster final zpot would be a fair sign of progress for Clare. A Waterford win against Cork would guarantee them third at least. Think they might prefer the down time to regroup
