Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 1)

Where was Barringtonā€™s pub?

For me the real change in Ireland came post USA '94. We were still quite twee up to that.

Nah. A mullocker.

But he had other skills and suited the era.

Heā€™s an awful man and almost a caricature now.

But he fucked himself and his reputation under a bus that day for a pal of his, and knowingly did it. It cost him a lot of money subsequently. Price of loyalty to a long standing pal.

There is a few fellas stepping into photos lately who would want their head examined.

Surprised you didnā€™t know that kid. The Foleyā€™s were proper parish heads originally. Long time ago though

Halvey?

No idea what heā€™s up to now. Had heard he moved o dublin. He was always a black sheep amongst them really but was popular. A v nice man we discussed the other night tried to dig him out of a hole after the accident as well like a good friend would

No the people joining in the photos with him.

Idnā€™t EH lucky to be alive after riding a few of the wrong women, way way back.

Iā€™d say itā€™s a complicated one with EH. They all know heā€™s a loose cannon and made an awful mistake and ruined a load of lives. But like Begbie in trainspotting, heā€™s a mate. All shannon heads in the pic bar frankie as well they would go back 20 yrs plus

I donā€™t necessarily think it was a terrible thing on Galweyā€™s part to give a character witness for a friend, more misguided.

But the facts of the case were cut and dried. Halvey should have fronted up, to use a rugby term, and done his time.

I donā€™t know how you could have proper remorse or be ā€œa changed manā€, as Galwey said Halvey was, without doing that time.

Eddie Halvey and Jason Hayes. 2 of the biggest pricks to come out of Limerick from what I could tell

Some scenes out there this evening.

I remember Foley in the autumn of 94 destroying all before him. He got 4 tries against Connacht around then. Capped for Ireland on the flank against England. Was at it and remember him boxing with Dean Richards.

Christ the 90s were a terrible decade for rugby here.

This pulmonary oedema business is frightening. Would there be any symptoms at all?

Halvey had it all, except the important bit.

Vaguely remember a Jason Hayes playing for shannon back in the day but not sure what heā€™s done to be in that company?

I see David corkery in his tribute to foley had a cut off halvey for wasting all his talent

Yeah, Iā€™d say thatā€™s the opinion of a lot of people on him.

As an Ireland rugby fan, Tottenham Hotspur fan and England cricket fan, the 1990ā€™s was a decade of unparalleled misery on all fronts.

As well as Ulster becoming the dominant province in Gaelic football.

The hope was the hardest.

When Oā€™Driscoll and Hickey appeared, we hadnā€™t scored a try in Paris since the time of black and white.

Incorrect. Ireland scored a glorious penalty try at the end of the 1996 game in the Parc des Princes, a fitting way to end our Five Nations championship participation at the venue.

Have Waterford had many Ireland internationals? Iā€™m struggling to think of anyone beyond Ben Cronin.
