An accident? Would you ever fuck off.

It’s an indictment of the legal system that it made any fucking difference.

If he played soccer he’d be doing a nice stretch now.

Popplewell is a Wicklow man ffs

He should have done a long stretch no doubt.

There is little for me to be gained by commenting further on it though. But if you look at this case closely you will see there was some serious procedural issues which had a lot more to do with the sentence.

He was ultimately only done for drink driving, not dangerous driving causing death. Was complete balls up from the word go. Sure he had almost got away with it completely only the family (rightly) went apeshit and got massive petition signed to get him recharged.

System here is a disaster

The reason halvey got of lightly was because the eye witness reports of what happened did not add up with what the road engineer concluded or even come close. Ie they lied to try finish halvey and it ended up back firing.

I’ll not comment further. That case was a tragedy for all involved. Truly truly awful. It was more part of an observation in general that I’ve mentioned before, where in Ireland at least, being from a “good family” is openly used in mitigation. It seems odd and a bit against the grain. To be honest, I feel sorry for EH. I only know a few bits about the case from the papers. I agree with gilgams assessment of mick galweys input also. It cannot have been easy, and must have cost him in many ways. It would have been a lot easier to turn his back.
My main sympathy is with that poor family though. I don’t know how you’d keep breathing after such a thing.

Being from a “bad family” is also used as an excuse @flattythehurdler

The Irish haven’t a notion about a justice system.

I wonder was he tested for anything other than drink… and how do you measure lack of sleep.

Maybe art or someone might know it, but iirc there was once a thread on them Halvey thing on politics.ie that had a lot more information posted that I’d ever seen on here. An abhorrent case and individual so possibly left where it is but I found it informative.

The rugby football crowd circling the wagons and casting aspersions on the deceased child’s family. Very classy indeed.

You’re really quite odd sometimes. The man is a despicable human being.

I don’t really know anything about him. I’d feel sorry for anyone who killed a child unintentionally. It would surely break most folk, that’s all.

+1. A fairly unique moral compass. The same guy would blame a football club if a THIRTEEN year old member was the victim of a racist street attack yet feels sorry for this scumbag.
