Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 2)

Any national or secondary school that wanted would have a rugby dev officer in free of charge weekly…majority have zero interest in taking the offer up…not sure what other kind of support other sports offer

Dedicated to each class or for an hour for the school? I can understand why most wouldn’t be interested in any case.

A school could get 6 or 8 hours a week easily if they wanted

And they are not taking this up?

Far more aren’t than are…I’d say my club was 5 years trying to get them into local secondary school…in one of the two schools now

Must be time to accept that the public don’t want rugby then and try something else.

Was speaking to a principal recently. Told me when he was first appointed provincial or a rural school in the early 00s, the senior footballers of the local club would take turns to rock up the school one each day to take the youngster out for 45 minutes at a go. Some intercounty, some just club stalwarts. Simple as ‘alright, just taking the lads there now’.

The principal knew the score.

There’s not a lot of local support for Munster… Not as much as people think… They’d clean up in Cork

Schools are very much dependent on the whims of the principal. Causeway in Kerry was always a massive hurling school and football too TBF. Won all Ireland As in both. Principal came in a few years back all focus on academics and all the hurlers are going into the green in Tralee which has a hurling mad principal.

You used to get away with murder in Askeaton if you played Gah. New principal all gone numbers gone to shit

Secondary schools seem to be very cyclical. What’s the good school now isn’t the good school in ten years etc

Well operating under the UK system as we are, the reports compiled stating involving kids in rugby could be considered child abuse means it’s one of the sports that is no longer provided in our local schools. Gaelic, hockey, basketball and athletics are the current options.

Is it a girl’s school? No netball?

You’re right, netball and of course soccer too.

Munster were given money by a private investor to sign over seas players.

Won’t stop a certain poster pontificating about trying to destroy a sport because he doesn’t like it.

Disappointing not to see Munster invest this influx of money into their grassroots.

I wonder what happened Felix jones? Seems a lot of the English players were surprised by it.

They lost their main fitness coach in August too so I’m guessing the English rubby rebuild wasn’t going the way Jones and co had hoped. Either that or Humph has had a quiet word.

The guy in Kilkenny comes to our local school.
Most of the kids are absolutely mad about him, he’s great fun

Borthwick is difficult to work with and they messed Felix Jones around.

Any lad called Felix deserves fierce bullying in a professional setting tbf. Borthers is spot on there.
