Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 2)

Not to mention Swirvy Girvey.

He had a great long-running battle with Leicester’s Geordie Murphy who was originally of Leinster stock.

The 1st 15 of Munster I meant. They would nearly all have been homegrown?

Ah yeah mostly Irish. There was that Australian Jim who all the Munster fellas revered as a club legend. Does he still live there? Jim Williams I think. Christian Cullen was there for a while in the early 00’s too but struggled with injuries. Then you had Dougie Howlett and Mafi for the title in 2008. Paul Warwick was a grand rotation option during that period.

John Langford another revered overseas player. He just got it

When Munster won the final in 06 19 off the 22 were Irish. Halstead, the puuch and shaune Payne were the only non Irish.

It’ll likely never be repeated again. A little like the Lisbon lions or the busby babes.

By my reckoning 19 of the 23 players in the Leinster Lions squad for their Champions Cup defeat to Toulouse were Irish born. 21 Irish lads if we include Lowe and Gibson-Park as Irish.

As I said it won’t be done again.

Dowling was Kilkenny wasn’t he?

Ya

13 of the starting 15 Irish. 12 were born in Munster
Too I’d say. Dowling was from Kilkenny. Not overly sure he ever played with Leinster.

When Leinster won in 09 they had elsom wright Whittaker and nacewa and a munster lad in Fogarty

The Ian Dowling spin was the most devastating move in sport at the time

They’d Cronin in 2018 too.

I mean Leinster did exactly the same in 2018 so it’s not strictly true. Unfortunately it may be true from a Munster perspective. I’d love to see them have a renaissance again.

21 out of 23 Leinster’s were Irish in 2018. A real Lisbon Lions vibe about it as I’d say 80%+ went to school in a 15km radius of D4.

James Lowe and James Gibson park weren’t Irish eligible in 2018.

Think James Lowe was injured for the 2018 final.

Cronin was Munster and Henshaw Connacht too.
