Munster Semi-final Clare Vs Cork
its a pretty good point in fairness about tradition, and its especially important in things like Munster Senior Hurling championship games and also school’s rugby
Tradition is one thing the likes of Clare and Waterford never had or never will have on their side in a match against real hurling counties,
Davy Fitz can chase them up and down Carrauntohill all he wants at 4am on a Sunday morning after playing club matches a few hours before and threaten to ride their mothers in front of them or whatever tactics are used in Clare to spur their players into this manic frenzy they feel is required to play a simple game like hurling.
However once they see those red jersies emerge nonchanatly from the oposite dressing room and the Cork side ( even tho depleted) swagger onto the Limerick sward with a confidence that is not actually reflective of their actaual ability , the seeds of doubt will begin to creep into the minds of a few clad in yellow, knowing glances and smiles will be exchanged betwen those in red and they will know , just as David Forde knew when he blew a 21 yard free wide in 1999, just as Frank Lohan knew when Setanta O Hailpin cleaned his boots trod all over him like he was a doormat in 2003 and just as every single puckout that Davy Fitz hit in the last 10 minutes 2005 all ireland semi final fell straight into a Cork hand

Sid you once famously said " you cant beat tradition" in the Leinster Schools cup thread and you were proven correct, it will go a long way to deciding the outcome on sunday

Tradition is psychology, Kevin, and whether it’s amateur psychology or not it matters. Amateur psychology can often be quite effective.

It’s a large part of the reason why you often see good teams from traditionally unsuccessful counties fold, poor teams from traditionally successful counties win, and patterns of results when teams play each other repeat themselves.
You could argue that it’s the perception that the successful counties supposedly weaker team is only weaker in comparison to itself or former teams, but still good enough to beat most teams. This works the other way round too. Kerry 97 is a perfect example.

Tradition is far more basic and less mystical for me than what alot of people percirve it to be and is the use of consistent good practice (as in use of elderly knowledge, coaching, high standards of work rate etc). The want to emulate your brothers uncles, neighbors is a possible inponderable as well and emotional attachment can help you strive for excellence. But tradition can be lost quickly enough too. One generation of failure or a big fall out can have massive implications.

Tradition won’t get Cork back to the top of the Hurling tree, hard work, good coaching, better selection of mentors, more cohesiveness of club games, the county board and the county teams, and finally better use of our big pick is what will get Cork back to the top. God help everyone if we do get our shit together.

Thats a long way off still. Apparently some of our development squads are still underfunded and badly run.

Cork Team looks dodgy, but its the best we have i guess. Think i will Clare, no way Davy will miss this opportunity to win a Munster.

Harnedy any use? Good ball-winner?

Whoever wins on Sunday, I hope they enjoy the day because it will be their last win of the year.

Clare will be well able to manage whatever tripe comes out of the qualifiers in the All Ireland QF.

Glad to see Harnedy get the start, got to see him a few times for UCC this year and I thought he was a really good all-round hurler. He’s decent enough on frees too, in case Horgan shits the bed

I don’t believe they will be.
Not after the beating we give them.

I like your new avatar Runt

Horgan “always shits the bed” only good for frees

Self proclaimed 2013 HOTY Brendan Bugler will no doubt have a field day against the Gortroe man,
does anyone know if Clare plan on resting any players ahead of their big test against limerick?

Absolutely masterful PR campaign by JBM and the boys going into this one.
Clare the new Cork.
