Clare toiled a bit for the first 15 minutes or so, hit a few bad wides and trailed by 4. Then Conlon won a ball and bulldozed through for a penalty and Clare never looked back. Waterford never got to grips with him and himself and O’Donnell bullied them from there to half time and that’s where the game was won.

Clare eased off with 10 to go. Was a pleasure to watch Shane O’Donnell physically bully Coughlan despite being 4 inches and a couple of stone lighter, hammered into him early and often. Coughlan didn’t want to know for a finish.
