Munster Senior Hurling Championship 2018

yes when there was 6 weeks between games.

Regardless of old or new system there’s only ever 4 counties left in the hurling championship by the end of July. August is there as well for almost all counties for undivided attention to the club.

That’s bullshit. March is a horrible month for club activity. As is October.

Kilkenny only play games in the summer if the seniors get their usual 4-6 week break. If they don’t Cody stops the club games.

Word is they are making changes this week and that was always the plan.

However Waterford woes may change that

Great summation

Gaelic football is a brutal sport. And has huge skill levels. The fellas who blow on about it are pretty clueless.

Soccer is tough. Play AUL or an equivalent and you will know all about it

Soccer is grand if you can mind yourself.

You get hit way harder the higher up you play. The lower leagues like AUL you’d generally see a lad coming from a mile off.

Played against a really good Avondale team a few years ago and my take away from it is they weren’t the best ball players but they had a way of winning the ball and hurting you as well. After about 70 minutes it took it’s toll and they bate us handy. They won a rake of FAI intermediates.

My own club could have up to 14 Championship matches to play off from the end of August on, were Limerick to continue hurling into August.

Be tight enough to get them all in as it is, without pushing the All-Ireland out another couple of weeks.

It’s a tough job being over the fixtures calendar, but the current format is really the only waybill to make it viable with the current competitions.

Even if the League was scrapped, the county managers aren’t going to give the clubs access to the players for another whole month, that would fuck with their preparations.

The league should be a knockout tournament.

Geoff,
Stop talking sense

I think they will have to increase the gaps between the provincial group games, or at least put a break in the middle of it. Get rid of the preliminary round between the Joe McDonagh teams and the 3rd placed provincials. Do bring in a play-off between the bottom team in Leinster and the top Joe McDonagh team so it’s the same as Munster. Definitely scrap the January competitions, they serve no purpose.

A bit of tweaking and it will be a great format. I’m loving it at the moment tbh.

Ya saw them play a few times and know a few lads who played with them.

No surprise Cork City play similar way (Johnny C the manager)

They had half a LOI team with them though. They were very fit. MSL is very hard level so they are well versed.

You are right though, it is easier see it coming from AUL players

In fairness you have to let the yhing start and then adjust

County managers that said they were leaving players to club lied through their teeth.

Andy McEntee got his commupance Sunday for that kinda carry on

I would imagine with the increasing levels of elitism year on year in both hurling and football and the increasing number of games in the championships, that it will eventually evolve to the stage where inter-county players play only sporadically for their clubs, if at all. Essentially what has happened in rugby over the last 20 years or so since it turned professional. There was a piece in the Paper of Record a few weeks back documenting how April the new designated month of the club worked out. It was largely a non-event. More than half the counties didn’t have club games during April. The dual inter-county player has become a thing of the past over the past decade or so, inter county players playing for their clubs could well go the same way in time.

If you type “boards wa” into Google the third suggestion you get is
Boards Walking Dead
The fourth is
Boards Waterford GAA

A lot of players wouldn’t play intercounty if they couldn’t play for their clubs in my opinion

Jamie Wall is very much on his high horse when he criticises Waterfords lack of a stadium. Its not so long ago since Pairc Ui Chaoimh was dilapidated.

Would Waterford be granted even half the funds Cork were granted to develop Walsh Park? I somehow doubt it very much.

Amazing this structure was only introduced just as PUC was finished. Likewise the super 8’s.

Would PUR have held Munster Championship games between 2015-2017?

To be fair to Frank Murphy and co they used the Rugby World Cup bid to garner funds .

Why dont you take it up with Jamie Wall?

Most hurlers are unfit and have big fat arses.
