How many Munster champions have won the AI since the backdoor was introduced?
A lot more than Connacht champions anyway
There has been no Connacht hurling championship for 19 of those 21 years pal.
Epic fail.
I’m not a google merchant mate, you’ll have to tell me, it’s still a big game, no team every threw a munster championship,
My point stands though, it’s all wrong to judge this team on anything pre 17
Fair point. But in 2010, Tipp weren’t exactly too bothered after getting a first round hammering in Cork
I thought Cork were a flash in the pan last year where things ran right for them and they played better than they actually were.
After seeing them live two weeks ago I have changed my opinion and I think they are a far more solid outfit than I previously thought, they were much more impressive live than on the tv. The emergence of O’Donoghue, Spillane, Coleman and Fitzgibbon has utterly transformed a team than looked a rabble in 2016. They also have three big players and leaders in their forward line and have a keeper who’s distribution is excellent coupled with a side which is full of pace and hard running.
They will be in the last four again this year barring a couple of key injuries and will be s tough team to beat in Croke Park. I’d be very surprised if Limerick were good enough to go to PUC and beat them and that is not to knock Limerick who are turning into a tough outfit themselves. It will be tight but I’d expect Cork to eek it out late on.
I think at different times in last few years Waterford and Tipp have
I wouldn’t accept that but fair enough I’d thats what you feel, it would be a supremely confident team and manager would aim to peak so spectacularly
That’s a fair enough assessment.
It will be a close game.
couple of points either way.
I’m sure they try to win in the games themselves. 100%
But I know for sure some teams aim to peak much later and it’s a case of what will be will be.
Now that’s gone out the window with new format
Cork are a top 3 team when they have the ball. They wouldnt be in the top 6 without the ball. They cant defend as a unit. Getting slightly better but if there is a stat on the number of clear shots conceeded on their goal they would rank fairly high
Fair enough, my point was anyway that this Cork team has only been on the go since last year, it’s just dumb bringing history into it, they’re starting to get a little respect now but they got fuck all credit for last year when they very nearly got to an All Ireland final where they would have had the privilege of being beaten out the gate,
I’d love to see a humdinger tomorrow, I think Cork are stronger in most departments (especially forwards) and they’re at home
You are 100% right.
But they have found 4/6 backs who can hold their own.
But in general they want to play a non contact game.
They need to approach it systematically like the Italian soccer teams did. Big pitch with ball, small pitch without. However continually improve you close in game.
In possession they are getting out of danger very impressively.
Ya I largely agree with that. This is a new team. 6-7 players only really in 2nd proper season.
Entire full back line
Coleman
Fitzgibbon
Kingston
Tim O’Mahoney
4 of them will be dead by tomorrow night.
Curtailing Nash is the key. Force him long with the puck outs and make them fight for their own ball and you have a chance. If you let him go short and pick his man, they’ll work it up and have decoys running all over the place.
Hopefully Flanagan will nail the cunt early… But you are right and I’m sure limerick will push up on the puckouts.
I’m having two tins of Beamish to settle my nerves here.
Setting off to Cork at 11am tomorrow.
Where you travelling from?
Crecora.
