There are four possible outcomes to any such incident/challenge… one of the three cards and nothing at all. The last part, nothing at all, is as valid as the others. In the days of no recording, a ref could ring around and also review footage before submitting his report.
That loophole in this case wasn’t available due to the audio. Big Seamie is lucky but such is life.
Similarly, early in the game Bennett takes a tumble and bays for a free and the rest… Gordon gestures to him to get up. That incident is then considered ‘dealt with’ regardless of subsequent footage etc. There’s no provision to sanction anyone afterwards if the ref made a wrong decision in their favour.
When trying to pull on a dropping ball to the net, I would usually go one-handed. Like Seanie Tobin vs Clare in 2012 or Richie Power vs Limerick in 2014.
Throw up the video and we’ll see if it was a red; potentially, if he just slapped down on his head, mistimed. But I feel like that wasn’t actually the case.
All of a sudden this looks like an incredible opportunity for Clare. Their need is far greater than limericks at the moment. If Flanagan is suspended you’d presume Hegarty comes in.
I’d be surprised if hannon plays too so that’s likely Mike Casey coming in.
If Clare drop deep and try create as much space as possible for their quick players it could cause Limerick a lot of issues.
Hannon missing means limericks long range scoring threat is seriously disrupted too.
It is a well know fact that these recordings were the reason that Peter Casey got off in 2021. The referee took the word of an umpire 60 yards away over an intercounty referee 15 yards away. The recordings of that incident were made available to the Co. Board when they appealed to CCCC.
Yes I was talking to somebody who’d know. He’d a scan on it and the results were messed up. So he isn’t officially ruled out until the results come through which I presume hadn’t before they named the team.
Surely Hannon would know himself though whether he can play or not? Kiely didn’t answer the question, so the Indo was relying purely on hearsay.
They did a dummy team last year for the first time for an actual tactical advantage, but they didn’t leave themselves short on the bench by naming an injured player. Now, maybe with the new rules, they can bring in a standby player if he is confirmed injured.
I’d be inclined to think that he’ll play on that basis.
