Munster Senior Hurling Championship 2023 (Part 1)

He had a good houldt of Duggan’s shorts, which iirc was highlighted by the white strapping on his wrist. Dalo wouldn’t have seen it from where the Sunday Game crew were posted

That incident was right in front of Daly. Sunday were in the bottom right hand corner.

Unless he can see through Duggan he’d be doing well

I wonder what rule he issued the yellow card under so.

I’d liken to the end of sopranos when the camera shut off. It’s the same with the final whistle at the end of the game.

Everyone just overanalyses the decisions made before the final whistle. It’s idiotic.

I also believe added time is a minimum of what’s played. So it’s a minimum of 4 minutes.

I’d like to see a player like Darragh O’Donovan confronted with facts and asked to back up such a wild claim with specifics. I’d like to see them put under pressure by a Vincent Browne style reporter with a bone, get all embarrassed like a politician and be forced into a humiliating climbdown.

But not against the top sides!

People have been writing Mul off for years, I’d say Kiely will be happy enough with him yesterday. He did the job he was asked to do: harry the half-back line, stop Clare getting up runs from deep and open up space for Gillane.

The one time he probably failed with a weaker tackle, Clare ended up getting a goal, I think. Other than that, he did the job he was asked, selflessly. Gillane reaped the rewards.

Whether he starts the next day probably depends on who we play and how they will set up tactically.

His case is strengthened by the impact of the bench too.

He has a better understanding of what’s required of him in that role than the alternatives, even now

He doesn’t have the legs of old, 45-50 minutes is fine when you have someone like Peter Casey in reserve.

Obviously it’d be better if he was scoring as much as he did in 2018 but tbh, yesterday, neither him nor Flanagan even had an opportunity, it was all about opening the space for Gillane. If Gillane was getting beaten to the ball regularly, I imagine Flanagan particularly would have seen more ball but possibly Mul too.

Agreed.

I’m surprised at that comment from DOD tbh. If that’s the level of angle needed for inspiration for the team I’m surprised.

The only angle I’d see as legitimate is the officiating that Hegarty is getting. He was blackguarded again yesterday.
He probably shouldn’t react to Hogan but he took a fair clip to the head by Hayes or Nolan falling to the ground being fouled by Hogan.

DOD has made bizarre comments before, most notably after the 2021 Semi Final v Waterford - the day the bales of straw collapsed on the motorway.

No. Was directly in front of me and free could have been given the other way with Casey put in headlock before the ball even came in. Call against him was tough, 50/50 battle at best but to book him was rediculous.

I bet you would. And you’d have stats and figures to counter him. And then call him a commie or russian puppet.

Casey’s was definitely a foul but it was nowhere near a yellow card. There were numerous incidents from both sides that would have been more deserving of a yellow that he ignored. In fairness to Mike, considering he was on a yellow so early, he did well. Now Clare probably played into his hands a bit by just lamping the ball down on top of him.

I’d imagine Gordon was listening to his umpires, I’d guess the lads who called the Casey & Hegarty yellows seemed fair more inclined to put the paw up.

In one way you’d argue both calls very soft & harsh. On the other hand it’s probably no bad thing that the umpire are telling the Referee what they’re seeing. A lot of them refuse to do.

I find it hard to believe Flanagan was sacrificed as a scoring threat to make space for Gillane.

He just had a better man marker.

Saying he was detailed to just run around creating space for Gillane is a stretch.

Same way Mulcahy was there just to ‘work hard and do the job he was asked to do’…

Bottom line is a number of Limerick players underperformed and they fell over the line thanks mainly to Clare’s own incompetence at not switching Nolan off Gillane and the wides/shots dropped short at the other end of the field.

A great start to any post…
