Munster Senior Hurling Championship 2023 (Part 1)

We used to be like that

Hegarty’s was probably the clearest yellow card of all time. A mile late

It was stupid. He knew well what he was at. There is one thing laying down a marker early doors but that had the hall marks of a lad just wanting an early bath.

Winning games down to 14 isn’t easy and takes more out of the tank too.

Been a while since Limerick scored less than 20 points in a championship game. Kilkenny semi final back in 2019 possibly.

They were there for the taking yesterday but Waterford got the head staggers when it opened up for them following the red card. The game will definitely stand to them ahead of the Cork game though.

I think the red card showed up the paucity of our attacking game plan tbh. We didn’t score for about 15 mins after the red card.
Even a few of the subs that came on continued with lashing shots for a good bit out when they had space and options in front of them.
Padraig Fitzgerald had one very poor wide and he had a lot of space ahead of him, He hit another one if I recall correctly and it either went wide as well or dropped short.

Look over there. Look over there. He’s a sly one is whiney.

Big Rob Ryan was nowhere to be seen when players were getting assaulted by backroom staff. He’s some man to cycle downhill.

Flanagan will presumably be banned for a game.

Will Hegarty? Is there a rule where if you get two red cards in 12 months, you automatic get a game ban?

I’d drop him to the bench anyway, but we would ideally like to have him coming on if possible.

Silly stuff that you more associate with league games than Championship.

Think the rule is two red cards in a season.

I wouldn’t mind looking at Kyle back up at 11 and maybe lynch at mid field. Jazz things up a little. We never opened up and really hurled at any point yesterday.

Dan at half?

I’m not disagreeing but we’re a little short on pace back there then. Kyle possibly saved the game for us with the ground he made up on Gleeson at the end.

It’s a pity he couldn’t see the Hego incident ten yards away from him.

That’s one of the main reasons he’s there, we were vulnerable to pace, and no other player in the country makes up that ground in that time, I don’t think.

And with Ryan Taylor, David Fitzgerald & Tony Kelly likely to be running in those channels next week; I’d like to have a bit of pace there. They hurt us there last year.

Taylor was in a walking boot after the match yesterday - hard to see him being right for Saturday

That’d obviously be a massive blow for Clare, he was superb.

Fitzgerald will help a bit in bringing that pace from deep, and Kelly generally gets more freedom against Limerick but who will partner Malone in midfield? Will they just put Fitz straight in there or could someone like Morey come in?

Hayes

@BruidheanChaorthainn is right that we possibly need a tweak but we’ve started nearly every round robin with a performance similar to yesterday. 4/5 big names were way off it and i don’t think we see that many all being off on the one day again.

Next Saturday is huge now. It’s almost knockout for Clare… Unrale occasion.

Very good point

Yep that’s fair but we just might need a little spark. I’d agree hego should sit it out but it’s hard to see that happening if hannon is out and possibly Flanagan suspended too.

Clare’s whole year rests on next so they’ll surely throw the kitchen sink at us.
