Keeper jersey
A couple of things that do irritate me atm:
Inconsistent application of the black card & penalty rule in hurling. McInerney’s foul on Morris was a classic of the genre, no complaints there. But Shanagher at the end was 100% going to get a shot on goal away if his hurley wasn’t held. It was similar to the one between Clare & Wexford last year; it looked like there were bodies back by the time the ref actually blew the whistle but, if not for the foul, it was a definite goalscoring opportunity.
I get that it might be hard for referees to enforce but either we’re trying to cut out the cynical play or we’re not.
Secondly, the 10 minutes for the sinbin in both codes. Because of the way it works, it just encourages teams to absolutely kill the clock. If a player is down injured for 10 minutes, the sinbin would be expired and they could come back on having missed no actual gametime. That can’t be right. I would say- reduce the length of time (I think 10 minutes of 70 is actually harsh enough, especially in hurling where you’re pretty much giving them a penalty too) and make it last for actual gametime.
Hego will stand suspended as the rule is a one-match ban for two double yellows in 48 weeks. Obviously, they can appeal and will certainly overturn the ridiculous yellow in Ennis last year when Aaron Fitzgerald was lucky not to lose his life.
Either way, I suspect he might be sat down for next Saturday anyway, with CON getting the start.
@Fagan_ODowd, I noticed in the programme yesterday that one of the Waterford Primary Game young lads was from Gracedieu. Are they a city club or where are they based?
Limerick played Clare on the 15th of may last year too in the round robin. So that’s more than 48 weeks.
So no ban for hegarty from I can see.
Stone wall yellow. Can’t complain and he didn’t. Probably wasn’t in straight red territory. It was late but he’s so much taller it did look worse
They would be DLS club AFAIK
They were schools rather than clubs. Gracedieu is when you come over the bridge go straight up the hill and turn right. Would be De La Salle territory now. Mount Sion dropped a ball there 20 years ago.
Don’t know about your last point. Typically we start the round robin with a good/plucky performance and it goes to shit after that. We are out of the long grass now so Cork will be wise to us. And we are not going to magic up a scoring forward between now and Sunday.
I would say ye have scoring forwards, tis getting them the ball is the issue.
Having played a game of that intensity can only be a plus. Better than 4 training sessions.
It’s up to Waterford now to make the most of it, but they can be in a good place going to PUC next weekend.
Patrick Fitzgerald? He looked lively when he came on. Plus Austin to come back in.
Maybe release Calum Lyons to a more traditional wing-back role and let him get forward.
Just have to feed the ball into Dessie and the likes, Cork’s full-back line will be their weakest line with Eoin Downey and possible O’Donoghue out.
No offence but Montgomery, Dunford and Prendergast wouldn’t score in a month of Sundays. Kiely scored a goal once 2 years ago against Tipperary in Cork.
Ozzie/Ossie/Aussie oi oi oi, Dessie and Bennett are all well capable of getting a score though. The other lads are just there for the donkey work. The problem is the scorers are just so isolated
Yer scoring forward is at 11, he did play well but if ye can get him enough ball inside he will as always be lethal
Cork & Waterford will be similar to the opening scenes of Saving private Ryan, helmetless bodies strewn across the pairc, screams of men writhing in agony, the horror! the horror!
Is there any reason the support was so poor from Waterford @Fagan_ODowd, there was no more than 1,000 I would think. I would have thought for a home game ye would have had a few more there and for the opportunity to watch the modern hall of famers. The support was akin to Galway and ye are better than that shower who never travel.
Split season.
Kiely is a good goalscorer, I think, but he doesn’t belong in a 2-man inside line (I know that most teams play 2-man inside lines, but he needs to play in a system where he can be isolated against a defender and not have a covering defender sitting right in front).
If Waterford went:
JB NM
JP SB AG
DH PF
I think that would be a decent attack. If they went without a sweeper, you could play Kiely at 14. Or be interesting to play Bennett inside.
Should play it on curracloe beach
That is ridiculous really. A double yellow red and a black in club over a term of 48 weeks is a 2 week suspension. How does it work for dual.players?
Why not a 1 game ban like a standard suspension?
