Munster Senior Hurling Championship 2023 (Part 2)

The Well are struggling underage too.

A few would go to crecora but thats just closer for some lads.

That’s because an incredibly busy road goes through it. Leads to the port in foynes which is one of the biggest
Ports in Ireland.

They always have tbf. If you were playing them under 14 they’d always have 3 or 4 under 12s playing and they’d only have a couple off subs.

I heard the numbers are very low now but there might be other reasons for that which aren’t easily solved.

The ‘well will be fine none of ye need to worry about them now or in the future.

The well have had six all stars since 1991. Have they had 15 lads play championship hurling for Limerick in that period?

Paul o Grady is one. Tom o Brien and Peter Harty played the year of the strike. Barry foley as well.

I’d say you’re close to a 40 percent all star conversion which is very good really.

What division would they typically ply their trade at underage? If they were Premier and competing relatively well it would be a solid base to filter through to senior given their propensity to produce generational talents.

They’d usually be premier or a until recent years. Haven’t won a premier minor in 15 years I’d say and can’t ever remember them winning a premier 21s.

Is that the fella who took the frees for Limerick in 2001? I remember him drilling frees to the upper tier of the Canal End against Wexford on my Liam 01’ video. He kind of vanished from the inter-county scene then afterwards?

No I don’t think so. He scored an unreal point v Waterford in maybe 03 but doubt he was on in 01. He finished up quickly enough maybe by 05.

Used to wear a really bright yellow helmet.

You are being extremely ignorant to the collective KK performance on the day imo.

My childhood recollection was spot on in this instance. Just found a YouTube video of that Limerick v Wexford quarter-final from 2001. This was the Limerick forward line.

I’d have thought Barry foley was hitting frees
No?

O’Grady had a distinct freetaking style if I remember correctly. Would point his body towards the corner flag almost.

Is that not most clubs?

Clem Smith cost us that day. :see_no_evil: :see_no_evil:

He was carried for a while for his frees. Then Mark Keane came along and we carried him instead.

Paul O Grady was the freetaker in 01 definitely.
As said earlier Barry Foley on that team also, got the sideline v Cork. Ciaran played that day, I think Kirby was gone.
Since then in my recall the Well would have had

The current trio obviously
Seanie O Brien, Kevin played league and maybe championship, Tom O Brien was on panels also.
Brian Murray. Paul Carey, league only I think. Paul O Reilly was on panels. Josh Considine and Jason Gillane on panel in recent times.

90s Anthony Carmody and Pa Carey as well as Ciaran, Gary and Barry, Tony O Brien played league, Alan Purcell maybe also league? Natal O Grady fairly sure played 1 championship game. Id imagine Declan O Grady and Nigel Carey made a couple of league panels.

In the 80s when I started going to matches the great Leonard Enright was there and Pa Foley, Dave Punch and Dom. Sean Foley had just finishdd I think
