Small mercies. The stakeholders in Tipperary GAA have ruined the game there.
How has it come to this?
Underage teams have been consistently competitive over the past 10 years.
Development squads have been the ruination of the big three
That’s the interesting thing. Tipp, cork and Kilkenny weren’t great in the 90s but you didn’t have a Limerick team to lay waste to all the Irelands.
I do think the side line for Limerick is the biggest gap. Our boys are miles and miles ahead of the other set ups.
A nice win to get especially after Cork’s burst after half time, a game similar to the last 4 or 5 meetings of the teams where both sides get a run on the other and Clare made more of their purple patch when they got on top. Like those games the scoreboard was closer than the balance of play.
Cork’s puckout strategy into the wind was bizarre, continually asking lads to make 30 yard runs and then take the ball at full pace yet they couldn’t get away from their man so were constantly under pressure and once you don’t take it clean they are isolated and it gave Clare a huge attacking platform. Collins distribution is very average too yet they use him in a way that would make you think they completely overrate his ability to put the ball where it needs to go.
Brian Hayes was a passenger yet 2 or 3 lads called ashore ahead of him.
Clare’s use of the ball and delivery into the inside line was much improved on last week. All the forwards had their moments and worked like dogs throughout. There were some fine scores from both sides, Darragh Fitz hit two beauties for cork. While David Reidy got a couple of massive scores when the fan was in the fire. David Fitz was David Fitz, disinterested for 50 odd minutes then had a couple of big moments.
A nice cameo from Conor Leen off the bench too. James Owens is a very poor ref
It’s certainly a large part of it but the on field leaders play a huge part also.
If cork Waterford and tipp all win one match against each other does it come down to score difference?
Two teams = head to head
Three teams scoring difference
Yes it does but in a mini league amongst themselves
When is DOD back for limerick?
Was Flanagan injured today? Anyone know what wrong with him?
Mike Casey is 4 weeks away from return
Ooh right so that Clare game would be no good to cork and the baytings off limerick dont count it’s very likely to happen surely
Flanagan couldn’t get a babysitter apparently.
Dod was due back for cork.
He’s a neighbour of my parents now. He could have dropped the 6 kids over.
He was on the bench late on in the game anyway. Could see him when the camera cut to the crowd. You’d have to admire lads like himself and David Clifford managing to juggle a young family and top level inter-county. It must be extremely hectic.
Between themselves now. Changed a couple of years ago
Good synopsis.
Our puckouts really fucked us at such crucial times. There was a cruel spell of poor goalkeeping distribution there straight after the red card.
O’Donoghue should have a few sleepless nights. A dumb, dumb thing to do. Ultimately the difference between the two teams.
Harnedy was immense, he gave it everything. In fairness, they all did.
Connolly had the Clare fb line in a lot of bother, as we suspected he would. Once again, we didn’t find him enough.
Some of the subs were very strange. Twomey was called off too early and Hayes too late.
James Owens overall very poor. Makes too much of the game about himself.
It was on, a mother and father of a hiding.
It’s hard to see a combination of results where three teams end level on 4 points which Cork would be hoping for.
Cork’s only real hope is to beat Limerick and hope Waterford, having finally thrown off their round robin shackles, suddenly turn into a rampantly dominant team who win all four games.
Otherwise it looks like a fairly straightforward scenario with Limerick, Clare and Waterford going through.
Is there anything to be said for an even bigger rousing rendition of Slievenamon on Tipp FM before ye play Waterford?
