Paddy Deegan made a smart play near half time yesterday then in delivering the body check on Chin as he was running at him inside the arc. No pull down, trip or use of the hurl. Just an old fashioned dunt of a shoulder into the chest as Chin committed him and laid the ball off to McDonald outside him.

As was posted above, the severity of the foul is bound by the opportunity the fouled player is stopped from taking.

One of the cynical fouls which caused outrage wasn’t even given as a free. The rugby tackle by possibly a Dublin lad from memory.

Attempts to improve the game should always be made, but the GAA is so reactive it’s ridiculous. A few pundits talk about it for a season and next thing a rule change which is completely vague is made (and which will no doubt cause controversy) and same pundits will be giving out about it.

Haven’t read everything above, but I assume I’m going to go against the grain a bit here, but when he turned the man (and had he not been hauled down), you’d immediately think oh goal chance here wouldn’t you? Haring into an acre of space. So there was a goal scoring opportunity.

The problem is, pretty much anything is a goal scoring opportunity. It’s pure vague. Sure Seamie scored a goal today from a mishit.

In this case the punishment doesn’t fit the crime. But you can’t blame the ref I don’t think. Stupid vague fucking rule, brought about by the classic reactionary GAA brigade.

The Cork penalty last night was soft as fuck too, Cahalane was on his way down before Casey ever touched him, but sure that’s hardly a surprise, they must have spent weeks practicing the feigning head injury routine

Is there all that much difference between Barrett’s hit on Galvin during Clare’s second goal and Mccarthy’s tackle? Neither were close to getting the ball and both took the man out late.

Whatever about the severity of the tackle the ref applied the rule as per the rule outlined above. It’ll give other trampish corner backs a quick seconds thought before they chop down a forward on the burst through.
Sure it looked harsh but he applied the rule as he understood/interpreted it.

The goalie just stood on the line waving his hurl around without any effort at stopping the penalty. Bizarre…
