Heās certainly not under rated in Clare, Iāve heard lots of Clare pundits talk him up, such as Daly and Jamesie. I hope they continue to do so and that Clare continue to play him, itād be great
OāBrien is finished hurling is he? A selector with Parteen this year I think
Daly, Jamesie and someone like myself have seen enough of him to know heās made of the right stuff. Can be a bit too eager at times if I was to be ultra critical but heās a super defender
heās a liability - heād give away scores all day fouling and a red card waiting to happen, if he was less of the billy big bollocks he might be half a use
Think he was playing club for Clonlara last season, not sure whether heās packed it in.
I wonder would Clare put Galvin at 6? Leaving Cleary at 3?
Diarmuid Ryan & McCarthy flanking Galvin; Hayes & Browne in the corners?
Cork is the one game I didnāt want first day. If anyone is going to do us this year itās them and especially the first day out.
ah Galvin is way too loose to put in at centre back I think
McInerney is decent but hasnāt pushed on - I think Morey is gone ?
Clare have a mediocre defence but I still think they could beat Waterford . Wonāt beat Tipp though .
If you were playing him there, heād just be sitting in the pocket, deep in front of the full-back line. Youād have a defensive-minded midfielder in front of him.
Heās not the most physically imposing, there might be a concern that thereād be a bit of weakness if you ran straight down that channel but if you had the right midfield, you could probably do it.
he kind of does that role from midfield anyway when they name him there as it is? so youād be saying have Galvin sweeping deeper and another sweeper in front of him? I donāt know have they another fella to do the āGalvinā role
I think you need a fairly orthodox centre back to be playing Galvin anyway
He āsweptā for Clare in the 2018 semi final . Took up the role after the bad start .
Not a 6 . If his attitude is right he is a real asset
In the Declan Hannon type role is it? Maybe, big job for a midfielder in front of him. Cathal Malone maybe
whenever that statement has to be made it never usually works out
Well Galvin didnāt play last year, so if heās back & fit, heād be a bonus either way.
Iād be saying Galvin to play a very similar role to Hannon and then youād have a WOD-esque midfielder in front.
Itās rare enough these days that centre-backs go toe-to-toe with a player, most of them are tasked with sitting in front of the full-back line, picking up any loose balls, being an options for passes out of defence. If a centre-forward wants to drop back a bit and pop over points, thatās not the centre-backs responsibility. They do still have to offer a bit of strength down the spine of the defence if there are runners coming through the middle but itās largely a āreading the gameā role these days.
He was kind of doing that from midfield anyway with someone else in the centre back position. He was very deep at times.Maybe McInerney in midfield and Galvin at 6 could work? McInerney has some engine, but is probably more needed else where.
Yeah, I just think the role reversal could work. McInerney did play midfield last year and was alright, I suppose. Although probably not as good as some people hoped.
Malone would probably be the one Iād choose, a serious bit of stuff, but probably canāt afford to lose him from the forwards either; you need a bit of grunt there.
If Duggan and Conlan are back in the forwards then you could move Malone back
they arenāt a dead duck anyway, it wouldnāt take much for them to do damage. some of their forwards are deadly
Donāt think Duggan is back though? Is he not still in Australia?
Conlon will be back but Iām guessing heāll be playing inside.
