Munster Under-21 Hurling

Cork/Tipp on this Wendesday in Cork. Doesn’t look good for Cork - a mediocre enough team anyway, plus we are missing Aidan Walsh, Cian MacCarthy and probably Luke O’Farrell as well. We’ll need an absolutely huge game from our center back line. At the same time I expect a classic, as Cork/Tipp underage hurling games tend to be.

Clare/Limerick on this Wendesday as well?

yes

Presuming Clare are overwhelming favourites, would Limerick have anyone decent at all?

they have a few decent hurlers in the likes of Browne, Mulcahy, Sean Tobin, Declan Hannon to name a few but as you say we will be overwhelming favourites and the pressure is on us while Limerick will have nothing to lose…If we approach in it the right manner then we should win with a bit in hand but if we ain’t ruthless/sharp enough Limerick will certainly gve us enough of it

The Minor Hannon is playing for the Limerick U-21s?

Mulcahy is a nice little hurler actually.

If Clare beat Limerick, would the final venue be Thurles (Tipp) or Cusack Park (Cork)?

Looks as though yes

Cusack Park would be packed to the rafters if it was on there. If it’s Thurles there’d be a fair edge to it as well.

On the face of it it’s difficult to see them being beaten but it would be no surprise if Limerick were the team to bring us back down to earth. Especially as underdogs in front of their own crowd. Clare are likely to be favourites in every game they play this year. Will be interesting to see how they handle it. They were like men possessed last year, but will the same appetite still be there?

Would agree with all of that…It is a real banana skin, don’t know how well limerick’s prep has been but I don’t see any names in their backline that will curtail Conlon and Honan at this level and that could well be the difference…Big question marks about the full backline…Tipp look to have a very strong team on paper this year

I doubt it, Tipp are the strongest of favourites this year. Cork loosing so many good fellas i’d say keeping the score down will be the aim. I’d expect Tipp to win the All-Ireland if they can keep their feet on the ground.

Kev, Cork will be hard bet in Pairc Uí Caoimh.

I see the Tipp county board decided to go with like for like when replacing Carr as 21’s manager…One headcase for another

People are forgetting that Tipp were an extremely fancied side this time last year as well. The golden generation they were calling them. They were completely stunned when Waterford beat them and the recriminations started immediately.

If it did turn out to be Clare/Tipp in the final it would be a huge game. It being Clare v Tipperary in a final is nearly enough in itself, but the fact that Clare are the holders of not just munster, but the All Ireland, and the fact that it’s the first meeting since the 08 game would increase the hype massively.

The recriminations were more to do with the fact that the lads on the panel who won the senior munster final 3 days previously had been on the beer. I genuinely believe the importance of the U-21 grade is vastly over-stated and Minor is much more important for the development of players.
For example what did winning the AI U21 last year do to improve the fortunes of the clare senior hurling team this year?

Only in clare would it be hyped up, it would be just another munster final in Tipp.

I’d be fairly worried Mullach. Cian Mac is a massive ball winner at center forward, Luke O’ Farrell is our most lethal forward. We have good backs, but we are carrying at least 3 forwards for the next game if they are without Farrell as well as Cian Mac. Daniel Kearney is a lovely hurler at midfield, but i think he’ll get blown away by Tipp physically. Cork have no starting Senior, Tipp have about 4 or 5 i’d say off the top of my head.

Who is the manager Puke?

That depends massively on the county.

You forget that we can read premierview

First bolded point is totally wrong, i believe U-21 is more important.

Second, you hardly expect them to turn it around that fast do you? Your probably winding of course.

There was very little between these teams at Minor level, if I am not mistaken, Cork won the MF that year.
Tipp having 4 or 5 seniors will be an advantage to Cork as they will surely be minding themselves for the senior on Saturday, if not intentionally but mentally.

I’m not winding Kev, take the U21 champions in hurling for the last 30 years and show me the difference it made to that County’s senior fortunes.
The training a young fella gets in the Minor grade and the inter-county experience he gets is much more important his development than the U21 grade.
