Music Questions

That’s a very uncalled for attack on farmer.

Anyway, define obscure? If you know where to look It’s hardly obscure. And as a homo you should appreciate people have tastes outside of mainstream… But you do have point, some fellas try too hard.

Hard to define. Maybe if you asked the first 100 people roughly your own age that you met randomly walking down the street and the majority hadn’t heard of the band or artist in question, then that’s be obscure.

Clarkey, was this an attack on me? Please confirm.

Lots of people your own age would not have heard mainstream stuff that is slightly older, or slightly younger, depending on age.

I’m slightly to the left here- I enjoy some alternative and what some people would deem obsucre music, but they are all relatively just on the cusp of mainstream.
There will always be people like Farmer and Bandage, who for whatever insecure reasons, will always try to be ‘out there’, man.

You have your answer there mate. If you get a group of musicians with any bit of talent at all, they will come up with a half-decent tune and it is far easier to get that tune out to the masses now than it ever was. Hence, you get people hearing a half-decent song and saying to themselves “yeah, that’s a fresh new beat, i better buy that album” and they go and buy or download album. There’s a bit of a kerfuffle about the band for a while as people like one song, try to convince themselves they like 1 or 2 others before realising the band aren’t particularly good at all and they move onto the next fresh new sound.

Alt-J being the prime example.

You’re wrong about Alt-J pal. That album is a real treat. How do you do the squiggly Spanish “c” with the tail on it?

Not at all. It was generic. I just don’t really understand it as a hobby. One might come across the odd band that isn’t well known but to purposely seek them out, to me, is weird and I don’t really see how one could get enjoyment from it.

Not Spanish bro. French.

Is that French? Like Barca with a squiggly c? French?

ç ?

ç ?[/quote]

Yes. How did you do that?

Copy and paste.

I picked up the album by Poliça based on the recommendation of yer man Justin Vernon as I like Bon Iver very, very much.

Looking forward to giving it a listen over the weekend.

Apologies to Clarkey for the above two sentences.

Because in the majority of cases, mainstream music is shite. Why should I settle for dirge from the likes of Snow Patrol or Razorlight and ignore the brilliance of Emancipator or Godspeed You! Black Emperor just because the former is mainstream. Get fucking real will you.

I’m not talking about Snow Patrol and Razorlight as such. What I’m saying is there is a shitload of historical mainstream artists that should be enough to keep people going in my opinion. For instance, farmer, your favourite three bands if I recall correctly are The Smiths, REM and The Pixies? I’d call them all mainstream and there are many more like them. I’m not saying go off and listen to Rihanna but I just don’t understand the happiness derived from seeking out real alternative stuff. No need to get your knickers tangled. If it makes you happy, carry on, I’m merely offering my opinion.

Sport was always refreshingly free of this phenomenon. The best players and teams were the best and everyone fucking knew it. That’s why it wasn’t very attractive to hipster types. The Internet is starting to change this though and sporting hipsters are starting to rear their wispy facial haired heads

Gola, what’s wrong with facial hair? I can think of three people straight off who possess facial hair and significant sporting knowledge: Me, Rocko, ClarkeyCat. Please withdraw the reference to wispy facial hair but feel free to provide any pertinent tips regarding beard maintenance.
