Music Questions

loser

The happiness derived from seeking out alternative stuff is the quality of music it offers. Not all of it mind you, some of it can be rubbish but why are you having a go at people who want to broaden their musical horizons?

I’m listening to a lot of the owl Ludwig Van of late. Awesome.

Does it help with the owl in-out in-out?

No time for the owl in-out. I’ve just come to read the meter.

I’m just saying that I don’t understand it. And that it’s generally the pursuit of gobshites. Present company excepted.

That’s a very narrow minded view Clarkey. Should we only go to see mainstream movies and ignore more “art-house” films? Only read what’s on the bestseller lists of books?

My take…

Do I have time for Clarkey? Yes
Do I have time for farmer? Yes
Am I happy to see the two in disagreement? No
In situations like this is the truth often somewhere in between the two sides of the argument? Yes
Is the truth somewhere between clarkey’s stance and farmer’s position? No
Is farmer right? Yes
Is Clarkey wrong? Yes
Do I take pleasure in Clarkey getting it so badly wrong? No

I like this new posting style larry.

Also thanks for confirming that you prefer me to Clarkey.

Well I’d have thought there is a much larger catalogue of music out there than there is movies or books which necessitates a quicker movement from mainstream to obscure so I guess I would say no to both your questions.

Did your recent conversation in the 51 with farmer about your favourite multi-layered REM album make the pair of you sound like arseholes? I’m afraid so.

The principle is the same though. Why should people listen to what’s played endlessly on the radio or listen to older “classic” albums when there is so much new interesting music to discover?

Give it up Clarkey. You’re making a fool of yourself.

Well we are going around in circles at this stage, I just don’t understand the enjoyment garnered from the pursuit of the new interesting music as you call it or really how you go about it. I’ve always just picked up my new music from the radio or recommendations from pals.

Whoever drew the sport/football analogy (cant remember which it was) probably made the point better than me.

There’s a reason for popularity and commercial success IMO. Although there are obviously some hidden gems out there.

Jesus, that post reminds me of a retired/expelled forum member.

Commercial success is often down to the money spent by record companies. It doesn’t necessarily equate to high quality. Personally I get tired of what’s played on the radio and like to listen to something different.

It’s very easy to find non mainstream music. For starters you could go to The Smashing Tunes Thread where there are some fantastic tunes. Buy a music magazine, Mojo, Uncut etc. They often have free CDs which could get you started.

Commercial success is often down to talent also although admittedly there is an awful lot of shite about these days.

Commercial success is all about big companies and good marketing that get chumps to part with their money, it doesn’t naturally equate to artistic merit, or quality. If you can’t see why people look outside this, then youre the chump.

I’d just like to echo farmer’s sentiments about this new posting style of yours. It reads just lovely.
