Same haircut too

A born competitor who can’t seem to switch it off. Even with the nba titles, individual accolades and wealth he has accumulated he seems to dwell on the defeats and slights against him more than the victories.

Hard to warm to him as he isn’t all that relatable or human.

Exactly. Went from being the best college player to pretty much the best player in the NBA in a few months. He was an absolute machine

Started watching Friday Night Dinner. Jim Rosenthal’s son is very good in it. The funniest bits in the first series involve the granny. Very enjoyable.

He cut the shit out of Isiah the grandest. An evisceration with a raised eyebrow and an exhale.

Tell him someone was better than him and then just stand back.

Did you see when the schmohawk security guard beat him at throwing the quarters at the wall? He wasn’t far off Patrick Bateman levels of internal seeth!

John Malkovich is the greatest football narrator of all time.

Another thing that I don’t like about The Last Dance is the hatchet job on the GM. He built a dynasty with a franchise than had zero history of success previously. Jordan and Pippen are obviously bitter towards him as he locked them into long contracts at the start of their careers and forced them to honour meaning they were way out performing their contracts. But surely that is the mark of a good GM.

The decision to sack a coach who had gotten them to the Eastern finals and promote Jackson was an excellent decision too. Moved the team away from a Jordan centric approach and made them into a real dominant team. But listening to the two boys Gerry was only the butt of their jokes.

He looks a bit like him actually

Hadn’t really thought of that but that’s a very good point

I haven’t seen it all yet, but what I get from it so far is, Jordan in particular, is basically bullying the GM throughout making fun of him constantly in front of the team etc.

It’s probably all linked I guess.
Jordan and Pippen felt they had got done on their contracts*
Because of this they insulted the GM constantly, and never praised him, so he got no credit for what was obviously a very good job he was doing.
As a result he wanted to take them down a peg, break up the team and build a new one to show he could do it without the coach and the star players, to show that he was the one who pulled it all together.

*Though IMO they hadn’t really, they settled for financial security, Bulls took the risk they had a career ending injury the following day, so it was a trade off. It only looked a bad deal in hindsight, when they’d played and been fit and kept form for all those years.
Both would have made huge money outside of their contracts, Jordan in particular obviously. The long contracts also kept both of them together for a long period of time and allowed them to build a dynasty, which again increased their off court earning potential.

It seems like madness though that he wouldn’t increase Pippens contract for the last year (and maybe add a second year on) just to keep the peace in the side for the tilt at three in row again. Breaking up a team at the very top, just because you think they might slow down at some stage is a bit mental as well. At least wait till some cracks are showing.

Their beef should be with their agents not the GM.

Pippen at his peak was the 6th best player in the Bulls team. Like you say, the agent done fucked up.

I felt sorry for Pippen. He is the epitome of a gentle giant. His brother and father were both wheelchair bound and he obviously felt an onus to provide some level of comfort for them and look after the family. His thought process could have been what if tragedy hit him personally like his other family members and he would not be able to continue playing or he could have felt pressure from his family to accept the deal. $18M over 7 years back then was still a hell of a lot of money. It was a bit petty not getting surgery done earlier to be back for start of season.
