New Ireland manager

I doubt he would have got it once Trapattoni was in the frame.

Why would Terry Venables have been such a bad choice?

Those older lads should not be considered whatsoever when picking the manager.

Jupp Heynckes?

I’m talking about The players.

Cathal Dervan, fuckin hell is that cunt still writing?

Martin O Neill is being linked with Middlesboro job.

He can fuck off for himself now at this stage.

Middlesboro has a lot going for it, this is no doubt a tough decision for him to make. I’m sure he’ll do the right thing.

Paul Earley or Liam Buckley.

John “Goggi” Godkin

Don’t know if this has been posted anywhere.

I wouldn’t have minded Venables as manager.

The point isn’t whether or not Venables was a good or bad choice. The point that Dervan was completely wrong with his ‘information’.

Venables would have been a shit choice back 5 years ago. He was a disaster at Leeds, showed he was no longer up to it.

Indeed.

He had a pretty good team at England (Seaman, Adams, Pearce, Ince, Gascoigne, McManaman, Shearer, Sheringham), was at home, and the Euros were eventually won by an ordinary German side thumped in the 1998 World Cup quarters by Croatia.

ABM, therefore, this is great news.

Leeds were a crisis club when he took over.

He turned Middlesbrough around two seasons previously from a team who looked certain to go down to comfortable survival.

Ah here, you think the German team of 1996 was ordinary?

Venables got England playing excellent and attractive football, went closer than any England manager has gone to winning the European Championship and thumped the shit out of a gifted Dutch team containing most of the Ajax team that had won the Champions League.

His management record is, overall, pretty good and his man-management skills would more than likely have eliminated the type of communication problems which plagued the Trapattoni era.

He also would’ve qualified the Aussies for WC 1998 if it weren’t for the intervention of the social pest Peter Hore, I think his name is.

That is beside the point. While Leeds were in turmoil he certainly didn’t help matters and on numerous occasions he threw away games from winnable positions and further added to the chaos at the club. Alienating the likes of Olivier Dacount and David Batty for Paul Okon and trying to shut up shop and pulling 10 men behind the ball every time Leeds took the lead in games only for them to be beaten.

England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 with him as assistant manager. He was/is a busted flush
