New Ireland manager
Does that make Shearer better though? He was more likely to smash one in from distance but Bierhoff was much better in the air* and probably a better finisher in the box.

*Thinking of that, Germany have had a succession of centre forwards, who were all excellent in the air as well as being excellent in general play. Klinsmann, Riedle, Bierhoff, Klose.
Great call on Riedle. For a little guy, he was terrific in the air.
Did you even watch Bierhoff?

What “different types” of goals did Shearer score?
Of course I watched Bierhoff with Udinese and Milan. He was more of a penalty box player. Shearer scored many goals from outside the box.

And that makes him better? Bierhoff was one of the best strikers I’ve seen in Serie A for playing off, he had a great touch and his hold-up play and ability to feed players was vastly superior to that of Shearer.

I think the fact that Shearer never played for a big Club will always count against him, consistently happy to be a big fish in a small pond. Never tested in Europe at Club level.

Newcastle were in the champions league for two or three years of his time there

Throw up his record there for the crack.

I don’t know his record. If you want to see it look it up yourself

Blackburn were in it also when Shearer was with them.

Throw up his aul record there

Just admit you were wrong and move on m8.

Neither me or Mullach Ide said he had a good, bad or indifferent record. You said he was never tested in Europe with his club which was wrong. You also said he was a big fish in a small pond. Newcastle weren’t exactly a small pond for a good bit of his career there.

So?

I will when you prove me wrong good buddy.

I don’t have to pal, he was tested in Europe at club level several times.

It’s a really strange one. I don’t think Keane brings nothing - he was clearly capable at some level in his club management, he was way too prone to getting distracted, his transfer dealings were poor and he seemed to lose respect over time but he was better than “nothing.”

There are lots of surprising elements about it:
[]Surprised O’Neill wants Keane as his number 2
[
]Surprised Keane is prepared to work as a number 2

Surprised the FAI are happy with Keane in the role
The only not really surprising element is the most important bit, that the FAI would want O’Neill as the #1.

Obviously O’Neill has already approached Keane and he must have some idea of what Keane would bring, but it’s still really strange that he seems to have chosen him, and possibly made it a precondition of getting the job (though I guess all managers would want to appoint their own assistant as a precondition). Can he get Keane to just do the job and keep quiet with the media?

I’m happy to give this appointment my backing, and therefore my tag-alongs like @Bandage and @Rudi will also be supportive of the move.
Confirming @Rocko 's earlier confirmation. I back this appointment fully.

I can’t support anything with Roy Keane and @Bandage involved.

That said, David O’Leary is still my preferred candidate.

+1 Nothing only good can come of this.

Chris hughton it is
