In one sense it’s very much kicking the can down the road for a year & the questions remain about long term club strategy. Desmond could go back to Keane next summer but the extra 12 months might even give him the time to add another name or two to the shortlist - it’s seemingly very hard to get on it. Who knows? Maybe Berthel Askou might do well at Toulouse & come into the reckoning, Martinez could be floating about, Bellamy may have added to his reputation etc etc.
I’m not that pushed overall about a one year deal. You won’t get too many managers sticking around in Scotland for more than 2-3 years these days, if they’ve got something about themselves. We saw that with Postecoglou & Rodgers - these lads want to move to the EPL or a bigger league…&/or for more money. It’s probably as important for Celtic to get those football department roles filled with qualified people - director of football, head of recruitment & other roles feeding into them. So at least there would be competent people looking after squad building, pathway from youth to first team, contract renewals, player trading, loans in/out etc irrespective of the identity of the first team manager.
