Nancy Bhoys
The dentist surely in with a shout after last night
He’ll have them chomping at the bit alright…
I’m just trying to be positive. He looks like he has the job from all the reports.
I don’t really know anything about him. As I believe @Bandage said the other day, our track record in appointing managers is pretty decent (with a couple of obvious exceptions). I’d have preferred Knutsen but wasn’t overly keen on McKenna. Blind hope that he’s the second coming of Ange. But an awful lot will depend on having a strong personality.
I’m very much of the row in behind him but I’m really not sure. His record is fairly scanty but he looks a tough unit.
I had a look at his profile. It’s mystifying why they think he’s a good choice. Ange had a good track record pre-celtic. Is it that Desmond is trying to raise the club’s profile in North America? Wouldn’t be his first attempt. I remember attending a Celtic v Chivas game out there years ago.
I’d imagine he’s cheap so they can ditch him if someone else comes along. I honestly can’t think of many other reasons why he’d be considered a fit for Celtic, but hopefully it’ll work out.
Can’t really judge him til he’s had a fair crack, but he’s slightly on the back foot from the outset.
Didn’t he have a major public spat with the board at Montreal or wherever he was at before his current club?
Smells of repeating the same behaviors and expecting different results
I wonder how Robbie Keane who’s practically begging for the job would feel about the pro-Palestine contingent of the fanbase.
Fuck that. I’ll not support a team with that vile amoral genocide apologist on board in any capacity
I think his track record looks decent. He has over achieved in the MLS and seems to be very well regarded there.
Ange’s stubbornness helped him embed his style with Celtic and his projected confidence bought him a bit of time. But he needed that strong mentality to push through the initial struggles.
This team isn’t in great shape but it’s still nowhere near as bad as what Ange inherited. A huge change in style will be hard to implement mid season however. Nancy seems to have a very specific way of playing that doesn’t necessarily suit being the dominant team in the league. Who knows how much that can change though. Every appointment is a risk.
True. However, my opinion has always been and still remains that for the vast majority of practically unknown in the british isles managers that Celtic brought in, they did a good job. Bringing Neil Lennon back in was one of their biggest fuck-ups of all time.
Would there be some belief that there are players to be picked up from America at a reasonable price in the same way Ange sourced them in Japan, and this fella might be best placed to do it? Johnston is one of Celtics better signings in recent years, apparently it was Nancy who signed him for Montreal and sold him to Celtic.
Agree, MLS is very physical with a brutal travel schedule. All the European fellas remark on it. Stands to reason, America is full of good athletes.
That’s a hope alright. I don’t think it’s a market that’s as cheap as Japan but definitely better value than buying from England. And also they have their own South American scouting so it opens up more from that route too.
I was talking to a scout for a PL team last week - he said his instructions have changed dramatically in the last 10 years. Told now to find tall athletes, the clubs will teach them how to play football when they get them in. You look at a fella like Nico O’Reilly coming through at Man City, 6 ft 4 and can run all day.
That’s the way it’s gone. You look at that Danish side whose name I can’t spell & how they overpowered Celtic recently. Young lads from all continents signed using advanced analytics based on meeting certain physical markers etc etc. Keep churning them & reinvesting.
Re Nancy. I’m not fence sitting (well I am) but I think it’s okay to be a little underwhelmed by the imminent appointment without being at either extreme whether that’s throwing the toys out of the veritable pram or cheerleading like fuck.
I get the Ange comparisons but he had a much greater body of work as a senior manager compared to Nancy. Nancy has coached for over two decades but he’s only been a first team manager for 4 or 5. He’s had some success but I was reminded more of Deila.
I guess the point I’m making is he’s possibly the managerial equivalent of some of those player signings Celtic make. I’d prefer more ambition & a proven operator than an option that leans quite a bit on development/potential. As I say, that’s not to say I don’t think he’ll succeed & I’ll get behind him on the INTERNET.
Cheap manager to try and sign cheap players seems to be the overriding theme.
Lads this is underwhelming. No point in spinning it any other way
Ehm… you are a massive fan of the abu dhabi lads?
