A longstanding problem with the EPL is that not enough English players are getting the opportunity to play in their own domestic league with a knock on effect for the national team. One consequence of last week’s vote is that it will be a lot more difficult for foreign footballers to get work permits to play in England and there should be a big increase in young English footballers getting their chance at the top level.
Tottenham Hotspur have never been found wanting when it comes to developing young England talent. More England capped players than any other club. Its members of the elite coterie of super franchises that let England down in that regard. Manchester City regularly field a starting XI with no English outfield players. Woolwich regularly field teams without English players. Wenger seems to have an inherent in-built suspicion and wariness towards English players.
