With a correct managerial appointment, this could be the making of a lot of these talented young England players going forward. Look at how Italy are thriving at this tournament with Conte at the helm, the humiliations of New Zealand 2010 and Costa Rica 2014 all but forgotten.
A Euro 2012 final appearance in between that and our u21s reached a European final in 2013.
Harry Rednapp.
I believe Harry has ruled himself out.
But he could be gotten around.
Anyway, this is Big Sam’s job. He’s earned it.
There was little or nothing between Italy and England in the 2012 quarter final with Italy advancing in the lottery system after a drawn game. England U21’s reached the European Final in 2009.
Not a lottery system.
Lads you’re gonna be worse than the Limerick boys if ye keep going on about underage teams.
Brian Kerr could do a job with that soy-ad
Penalty shootouts require balls and some mental fortitude to carry out the most important and hardest part of the game under the most intense pressure. It is actually the polar opposite of a lottery system. It is therefore no coincidence that serial underachievers and tog-fillers England lose almost every penalty shootout they partake in.
Poor 6 months for Gaz Neville
One thing’s for sure, England are not going for a Johnny foreigner again, particularly at this, of all times.
And that Liverpool have won almost every penalty shoot out we’ve ever been involved in.
We’ve got that winning mentality, kid.
What a shame.
Given the abysmal way that they were playing then, logic would dictate, the best English manager for the job is Glenn Hoddle despite the mental media attention that this would bring into the equation.
Given that logic dictates this then it’s much more likely that they’ll give it to Big Sam, Ryan Giggs or David Moyes.
Is there any chance they’d take Liam Dunne off our hands?
He’ll be out of a job after Saturday anyhow so he’s probably got as much chance as Hoddle.
I don’t necessarily have a problem with a Johnny Foreigner coaching appointment. The proper appointment though is key now. If you look at the two games that matter most, rugby and cricket, England were a shambles under ineffective native coaches in Stuart Lancaster and Peter Moores. Under new coaches Eddie Jones and Trevor Bayliss (both Australians), England are excelling, only behind all conquering New Zealand in rugby and top bulldog in test cricket.
The last two managers Capello and Hodgson were closing on in on pension age when they were appointed, both well past their sell by date. Before that it was a Wally with a Brolly. There’s culpability all round for last night’s shambles, but the most culpable are management. Outstanding players who excel under good management with their clubs have been victims of managerial dithering and inconsistent selection and tactics. They’re no mugs and beat the Netherlands home and away in qualification, but its simply unacceptable for England to be codded by a crowd of fish stealers.
if by top dog you mean 4th out of 9 then yes they are top dogs

England are current holders of the Ashes, beating Australia in their most recent test series last summer.
England are current holder of the Basil D’Olviera Trophy have won the test series in South Africa in January.
England are current holders of the Patuadi Trophy winning in 2014 and also won the series before that in India in 2012.
England regained the Wisden Trophy from the West Indies in 2009 and have held it since.
England also hold the honour against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh and if they fullfill the tag of favouritism for the upcoming series against Pakistan, England will hold the honour against all 9 other test playing nations simultaneously.
England are unquestionably the top side in test cricket at the moment.
