Nóirín O'Sullivan - Former Garda Commissioner

I’d like to see Michael O’Leary get the job. He’d cut down on the free doughnuts, if nothing else.

There in lies the issue. Given the resistance to change in the organisation at the moment, it would take decades to clear out the unwanted chaff.

True, and you’d pay a tenner to get the passport form signed.

But you would have an option to buy an overpriced glass of orange juice to keep you refreshed while you wait.

It’s such a waste of time having the guards stamp a form for your passport. A Guard, who has no idea who I am, signing a photo to say I am who I say I am. What a system.

Agreed. Everybody should just have a card verifying their identity that they can use to access public services.

Big data

Noirin only did what any pig close to the trough would do. It’s those who appointed her need to questioned

I think it was a Limerick technology company that won the contract for that. Must have been worth a nice few quid to them.

The resistance is at the top, not just of the Gardai but at the top of a political establishment that enjoys its cosy relationship with the cops. If the rank and file are well resourced they’ll rarely kick up a fuss.

It’s a low salary but when allowances and overtime are accounted for they get a decent wage after the first few years of training.

If they get the overtime.

In Dublin anyway they are now getting any amount of overtime they want.

Strange. Charlie Flanagan said to policing expert Paul Williams this morning that he had known about it for weeks

The betting is in for next commissioner guys…
