What was the revolutionary idea you had about the formations earlier pal? You’ve piqued my interest
Nothing specific. Just that rugby football has been played for 100+ years but there’s been no evolution in terms of team formation / alignment if I’m not mistaken. Or has there?
If 12 points isn’t far off, what would you call a 1 point defeat? A win?
No evolution around number of forwards and backs no. But lot of that is rule driven. The simple fact of being required to have 8 men in scrum means teams don’t line out with three forwards and 12 backs…there would never be a try scored. Lots of rule changes which has led to major changes in the game alright, most obvious being the change to allow lifting in the line out
You could of course just decide to play lighter quicker players in forwards but would struggle to win possession at any of set pieces
Some subtle things have evolved like the hooker is now more or less a fourth back row for example. I’ve seen few bits tried at club level that you mightnt get away with in the pro game like picking a bigger back to play in the back row and using them as a 2nd scrum half and kicking option…England actually tried to do this with Andy farell when he moved over to union
They were a dropped pass away from a try twice.
They were over the line and held up.
They had 70% of the ball.
lolz
Hey lads, Aldi want their sour grapes back.
AIL historians will fondly remember me regularly packing down at blind side flanker for a regular set move at the JJ McDowell Memorial Grounds. #8 would pick and a pop to the #6 who was standing in the blind side wing position and I’d break off the scrum, take an inside pass and get buried in a tackle. Those were the days when you could get away with loose binding though.
Sensational.
I’m picturing you now as a Matt Banhahan type. Massive bastard just afraid to play in the forwards full time!
Would Matt Bahaman drive a Nissan Leaf?
He might use two of them like roller skates
I was more of a Jack Clarke type.
Fekitoa gets one week ban for high tackle on zebo. Citing commission found that it should have been a red card
Saw two great stats tweeted today
It’s 1967 since the All Blacks have got a red card issued on field of play.
Oz and SA give away a yellow card for every 12 and 13 pens conceded. NZ running at one in 43 at the moment
Magnificent referee management
An Ozzie rugby footballer engaged me with some small chat today in the jacks of the Conrad hotel. I think they’d just arrived back from training somewhere. Actually seemed like a nice guy, unlike the typical arrogant Ozzie blokes you often tend to come across. No idea who he was though. Had islander origin so that might explain his friendly demeanour.
When I came out of the jacks, I noticed they were all heading into one of the hotel’s large meeting rooms (to talk tactics I assume). It occurred to me that the D4 rugby set could easily have a spy amongst the Conrad staff.
Nothing else to report but thought I’d share that boring piece of info anyway.
Whinge whinge moan
Izzy?
