Sweden can only be compared to Scandinavian countries you balloon.

My conclusion is that obesity is not as big a problem in Sweden as it is here.

Everyone in Sweden is dead mate.

30 new deaths announced in Sweden last Friday.

The Swede’s are notoriously accomplished 5k runners.

Covering a 14 day period

Since the end of August, the number of deaths per day has increased compared to the summer period. In the last month, there have been a maximum of 8 deaths per day (September 16). The deaths reported today are spread over two weeks and are expected based on the infection situation in the older age groups ", writes the Public Health Agency in an email comment.

Generally that’s the way Sweden massages its statistics. It backdates deaths. Plus they also do the neat little trick the Brits do where they only count deaths within a cut off period.

This is the real issue

Humans tend to struggle enormously psychologically with the difference between prevention and cure.

A few weeks back I mentioned defibrillators. The reason we don’t have a concerted campaign by crackpots against defibrillators is that the benefits of them are so obvious and tangible - they bring a person who is essentially dead back to life. They are a cure.

Whereas humans are only too willing to walk themselves into the position where a cure for a very bad public health situation - ie. the cure being a serious lockdown, will probably be needed again.

Psychologically they can’t deal with the sort of prevention measures needed to avert that situation.

Although given the widespread denial of the success of our previous lockdowns, a lot of people are demonstrably psychologically ill-equipped to comprehend cures either.

Definitely the case numbers are increasing though lower than this time last year. An increase in cases was expected with schools re-opening and autumn weather. The daily average for the first three weeks of October last year was 4828 cases, this year it is 2200 so less than half last years rate. But 5500 reported today is a big spike. Down here in Malopolska there are 260 cases reported today from population of 3.4million so quite low.

The ECDC website reports the vaccination rate at 61% of the adult population with one shot and 63% fully vaccinated. Vaccination rates fell off a cliff during the summer but are picking up again. Different websites will give you different rates depending on whether children are included.

What is interesting is to look at the correlation between vaccination rates and C-19 cases. The map on the left shows C-19 cases per 10k population by county over the last 14 days. The map on the right shows the vaccination rate per county. The bad boys are all in the East. The same people that vote for PIS actually.

Everything is pretty much back to normal re restrictions but masks are required in indoor public areas and in schools. Mask compliance is good in the cities but poor in the rural areas. Having said that, I went to see James Bond the other week and almost no-one was wearing a mask in the cinema. There are no conversations about restrictions right now but the expectation is that they will be imposed on a regional basis.

Meanwhile the flu season has commenced, there are 100000 reported cases of flu. Lots of people taking sickies at the moment.

Interesting that Poland has masks in schools but not us. The regional/political breakdown of vaccinations and cases is not surprising at all.

This is good for a laugh. The headers that support masks should do very well, not that they can be reasoned with

The kids have to wear masks in the common areas but not in the classroom. As it happens, the news broke this evening of 24 counties in the East getting a zone red or yellow lockdown

Lucky for the asexual Mama’s boy that he isn’t living under his beloved Vladimir Putin’s regime.

Don’t think he’d like it, somehow.

Science and humanity. The mask weirdos will be seething
